Job description

GFT is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Construction and Building Group in Timiskaming, ON This role follows a on-site work model.

What you'll be challenged to do:

As a Construction Inspector, you will play a pivotal role in managing transportation construction projects across the Toronto ON. This is an exciting opportunity for career expansion, as you will engage in complex problem solving, enhance processes, and spearhead small projects to ensure successful project delivery.This position will allow for collaboration with peers and senior levels, as well as stakeholders, to tackle challenges and contribute to professional growth and preparation for leadership roles.

In this capacity, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Establishing a safety-first culture for all construction projects.
  • Inspecting work materials and methods to ensure contract requirements are met safely and with quality.
  • Maintaining a daily inspection diary documenting construction activity, environmental events, and progress.
  • Issuing contract deficiency reports and following up on corrective actions.
  • Observing and reporting on infractions of safety, security, and operational procedures.
  • Assisting in resolving construction-related issues and ensuring contract compliance.
  • Tracking change notices for the completion of as-constructed drawings.
  • Assisting in the project closeout phase, including certificate of substantial completion and as-builts.
  • Coordinating and carrying out inspections to verify compliance with contract documents.
  • Reviewing the quality of contractor's work and reporting to clients.
  • Ensuring contract compliance with technical plans and specifications.

What you will bring to our firm:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • OACETT Designation (C.E.T, C.Tech, A.Sc.T).
  • A minimum of 3-5 years in construction engineering, including field construction and contract administration in the Toronto, ON/GTA area.
  • Experience with Class 1 Railway and working within a right-of-way is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle in good working order.

What we prefer you bring:

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience on construction sites, with a focus on transit, commercial, and municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in resolving claims and a strong understanding of health and safety codes and regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial, and local laws relevant to transit operations.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility to travel to construction sites for extended periods and work outside of normal business hours.

Compensation:
