The primary responsibilities for our Construction Inspector, Rail:

  • Provide inspection and construction supervision on Class 1 railway projects.
  • Maintain accurate daily diary entries and completion of contract documentation records.
  • Maintain daily photographic records, and videos as necessary to document contract activities.
  • Complete site surveys of completed works for tracking item and material quantities for payment
  • Complete daily inspections in accordance to client requirements and expectations.
  • Monitoring construction work is in accordance to contract documents and specifications.
  • Monitoring the contractor’s compliance to health and safety, and environmental regulations and legislation.
  • Supervise and implement quality assurance acceptance and inspection of construction works.
  • Report to the Project Manager onsite activities, concerns, and non-conformances, and provide recommendations for resolution.
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff.
  • Liaise with client representatives, as required.
  • Act as client site representative.
  • Requires working nights, weekends, and extended shifts.
  • Work may be seasonal in nature, as work permits.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The role of Construction Inspector, Rail is a casual, temporary, as-needed position. There will not be a set schedule but will be notified when we have work available.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with engineering or construction.
  • Preferred previous experience working with CN Rail and CPKC Rail projects.
  • Previous experience working on municipal or provincial transportation projects would be as asset but not required.
  • Be able to read and interpret construction design drawings.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently in remote locations.
  • Emergency First Aid & CPR Certification.
  • Valid license with an acceptable driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle.
Required Qualifications
  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent. (Candidates with 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute experience for a high school diploma)
  • A minimum of 3 years experience
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
  • Proven problem-solving and documentation abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
