Job description

STV is seeking two Construction Inspectors - Heavy Civil / Utilities for our PM/CM group in NYC.

The Inspector will oversee roadway and infrastructure construction, including at-grade and elevated roadways, structural steel, steel decking, concrete foundations, Maintenance of Traffic (MOT), and subsurface utilities. The inspectors will ensure compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards while monitoring contractor performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site inspections of civil and structural construction activities, including roadways, bridges, and subsurface utilities.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, AASHTO, ASTM, and local construction codes and standards.
  • Monitor contractor work for quality, accuracy, and adherence to approved construction plans and schedules.
  • Inspect structural steel fabrication, steel decking installation, and concrete foundation work.
  • Oversee earthwork, grading, drainage systems, and subsurface utility installation.
  • Verify compliance with MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) requirements and traffic safety protocols.
  • Review and approve construction submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and material testing reports.
  • Identify non-conforming work and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, utility providers, and contractors to resolve field issues.
  • Document progress through daily inspection reports, photographs, and punch lists.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA safety regulations and work zone traffic control guidelines.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction inspection, preferably in roadways, bridges, and utilities.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel, concrete construction, and subsurface utility installation.
  • Experience with MOT planning, implementation, and traffic control compliance.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil and structural plans, reinforcement details, and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with DOT highway construction standards and FAA airfield infrastructure (if applicable).
  • Proficiency in inspection reporting software and Microsoft Office Suite is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on large-scale transportation, infrastructure, or airport projects.
  • Knowledge of bridge construction, steel erection, and deep foundation systems.
  • Certification in work zone traffic control or MOT compliance.

Additional Information:

  • Work will require field inspections in active roadway and construction environments, following all safety protocols.

Compensation Range:

$63,305.00 - $84,407.00
