Job Overview :

OPG is looking for a Project Leader to help the Refurb Project team plan and execute the Unit 4 Fuel Handling (FH) refurbishment scope. The major components of this scope include New Fuel Load, RAB&C Installation, Commissioning, Trolley Validation and project closeout. The successful candidate will need to support the planning and execution phase of these windows in 2025-2026.

  • The successful candidate will need to have a working understanding of project management fundamentals (management of scope, schedule and cost), and a strong safety focus in the nuclear industry.
  • The successful candidate will need to understand the fundamentals of how a nuclear station operates, both in a technical and organizational perspective.
  • As a Project Leader, they must be able to proactively guide and lead the project toward a successful completion, with a strong focus on safety, schedule, and procedural compliance.
  • They must be able to identify issues and resolve them quickly.
  • They will need to interface with various stakeholders, particularly with Fuel Handling Ops & Maintenance, Station Ops & Maintenance, Contractors, Engineering, etc. During execution, they must be available to support the work on shift, not limited to night shifts, weekends or holidays required as part of the business needs.

Day-to-Day :

  • The successful candidate will be primarily based in the Refurbishment Project Office (RPO) at the Darlington Nuclear Generation site.
  • They will regularly visit other parts of the station to interface with stakeholders.
  • In the first half of the year, the days will be spent in planning for a successful execution. This will involve reviewing/developing plans, leading six shift reviews, interacting with stakeholders for material procurement, meeting work management key deliverables, and organizing sessions with various groups to ensure scope readiness alignments.
  • Provide an interface between the project team, FH Ops and Maintenance, CanAtom (the primary Contractor), and other supporting groups to ensure everyone is working to the same orchestrated plan.
  • This will involve setting up and leading regular meetings and working sessions to discuss plans, risks, resolve issues, and to obtain people’s ideas, agreement, and commitment on the work.
  • The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the organizational structure, the various roles and processes (i.e. work protection, perimetry, radiation protection, fuel traverses, etc.) at OPG and particularly within FH. The candidate will need to look for and remove potential roadblocks to keeping the work on critical path.
  • The candidate needs to be proactive and self-directed in leading the project, reaching out to people and proactively addressing potential issues.
  • During the execution windows, the project work is often on the Critical Path of the overall station refurbishment.
  • Maintaining the critical path schedule will be imperative. The successful candidate will be supporting the various groups executing the work (the contractors, FH maintenance, FH Ops) as well as Station Ops.
  • The execution windows will be generally between 2 to 3 weeks long, and at this point, the team will go on shift.
  • The successful candidate will act as a SPOC on that shift to ensure that executing groups (i.e. FH maintenance & OPS) meet their daily objectives within defined timelines.
  • They must be able to call into various project meetings, including senior-level updates, to provide a status and discuss issues.
