Our Capital Projects Group (CPG) Rapid Transit (RT) Program Delivery Group is seeking a Construction Health and Safety Project Manager (Rapid Transit Program Delivery). The Project Manager will provide program-level oversight of projects to ensure safety programs are delivered consistently and effectively throughout the project lifecycle, collaborate with Project Delivery Teams (PDT) to develop construction safety management plans for the Rapid Transit Program, and help identify and mitigate safety risks during project delivery. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Construction Health and Safety, RT Program Delivery, but will work closely with Project Delivery Teams and the Metrolinx Corporate Safety Team.

What Will I Be Doing

  • Support a safety culture and awareness by staying up to date with safety information, organizing Safety Engagement Tours, and ensuring up-to-date training to provide a safe work environment and prevent workplace incidents for RT projects.
  • Analyze construction activities and safety statistics to ensure work priorities and project coordination support safe and efficient program delivery.
  • Support Metrolinx Corporate Safety in reviewing and auditing safe work practices to ensure compliance with OHSA legislation, regulations, and contract requirements.
  • Work with the team to protect Metrolinx from liability exposure related to public risks/hazards and operational impacts.
  • Contribute to improvements or revisions of CPG RT construction health and safety plans in collaboration with the Corporate Safety Support Team and PDTs.
  • Provide day-to-day oversight to ensure on-site construction work by external contractors is performed safely.
  • Assess contractor compliance with OHSA and contract requirements, identify high-risk activities, and ensure mitigation procedures are implemented.
  • Assist in delivering safety programs for large-scale transportation infrastructure projects, working with internal and external partners to meet Metrolinx standards.
  • Collaborate with PDT Health and Safety and the Corporate Safety Team for guidance on policies, procedures, and best practices; report on safety performance metrics and audit findings.
  • Supervise and provide technical direction to safety consultants, Construction Safety Officers, and other personnel on construction projects.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need

  • Degree in Safety Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
  • Progressive experience in transit infrastructure planning, design, construction, supervision, safety, and administration.
  • CRSP, CSP, or CHST designation is an asset.
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license.
  • Extensive experience with heavy civil construction, underground facilities, and tunnel construction in dense urban environments.
  • Supervisory skills to lead and motivate safety personnel and contractors.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act, construction site safety, and related legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, and facilitation skills.
