About the Opportunity

Ferro Building Systems Ltd. is looking for a full-time Construction Estimator – Institutional, Commercial & Industrial (ICI) based in Surrey, BC, with the opportunity to work from home up to one day per week following the probationary period.

Reporting to the VP of Sales and working closely with the Senior Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the sales team by preparing accurate estimates, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring timely proposal submissions.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for reviewing drawings and specifications, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers, and delivering detailed and competitive cost estimates across multiple projects.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing drawings and specifications to define project scope, identify interdependencies, and capture full envelope requirements
  • Preparing accurate estimates, take-offs, and bid documents using Ferro’s proprietary AutoCAD-based system for pre-engineered metal buildings, while troubleshooting with manufacturer engineering teams as needed
  • Coordinating vendor and subcontractor pricing, managing RFIs, and ensuring timely responses
  • Providing alternate pricing and value-add options to strengthen bids and increase competitiveness
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and reliable service
  • Supporting proposal development in collaboration with sales staff to deliver complete and client-ready submissions
  • Managing multiple estimates simultaneously under strict timelines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Participating in weekly sales meetings and collaborating closely with sales, estimating, and project teams
  • Assisting in sourcing, prequalifying, and expanding the vendor database to improve market competitiveness
  • Contributing to a collaborative team culture by sharing information, supporting colleagues, and adapting to evolving systems and processes
About You

To qualify, you will need 3–5+ years of estimating experience in the institutional, commercial, or industrial (ICI) construction sector. A diploma or technical certification in building technology, architectural/structural detailing, or equivalent experience gained in a construction estimating role will also be considered.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience preparing estimates and take-offs for commercial or industrial projects
  • Familiarity with drawings and specifications, with the technical aptitude to learn pre-engineered metal building systems
  • Strong knowledge of vendor/subcontractor coordination, bid management, and RFIs
  • Ability to provide alternate pricing and value-add options to strengthen bids
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills to manage multiple estimates simultaneously
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Experience in structural engineering, architectural/structural detailing, or pre-engineered metal building systems (asset)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar software (asset)
  • Business development experience gained in an estimating capacity (asset)
  • Proposal preparation or CRM experience as an estimator (asset)

Compensation based on skills and experience, is a competitive annual salary of $78K - $85K plus a bonus potential of $5K to $10K annually based on performance and company success, and a host of excellent benefits including:
