OUR OPPORTUNITY

Our Building Group (Toronto) team is growing, and we're looking for an Estimator with over 5 years of experience working on major, complex ground-up and repositioning projects in the industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your existing relationships with local sub-trades and your knowledge of local market conditions to contribute to the company’s success.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

1. Estimate and support pre-construction for specified projects within the GB Building Group.
2. Prepare detailed estimates (conceptual, schematic, design development, construction) and/or prepare accurate preliminary construction budgets including subcontractor scopes and bid analysis.
3. Ensure that the estimates, including general conditions, are accurate, complete, and reflect the actual project requirements.
4. Provide clients with pricing packages, scope letters, schedules, and lead times; communicate quotes and budget status with subcontractors, clients, and team members.
5. Confirm actual site conditions through site surveys and collaborate with the project team to make recommendations to clients and design members on the best approach, advising on constructability issues during preconstruction.
6. Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, designers, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, vendors, and other project team members.
7. Participate in RFP responses, proposals, and presentations to help secure new work.
8. Represent Govan Brown professionally, staying updated on construction trends, and ensuring timely communication and meeting deadlines.
9. Stay current on changes in construction methods, materials, costs, wages, and working rules.

What You Bring

1. Post-secondary degree/diploma in engineering, construction management, architecture, or related field.
2. 5+ years of successful experience estimating major, complex projects in the ICI sector.
3. Knowledge of construction management, lump sum, and design-build contracts.
4. Strong relationships with local sub-trades and knowledge of local market conditions.
5. Ability to interpret drawings and technical specifications with a solid understanding of trade scopes.
6. Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship management.
7. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
8. Proficiency in estimating software, quantity take-off programs, and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Working Conditions

1. Primary location at 108 Vine Avenue, Toronto, with potential travel.
2. Exposure to construction sites in all seasons.
3. On-site and in-office work; this is not a hybrid or remote role.
