Job description

Large Canadian general contractor is seeking an experienced Construction Director to join their growing team focusing on a new healthcare project in Ontario. Work in Toronto for the first 12 months and then work at a remote project location on a 14-day on, 7-day off rotation schedule. Salary $200,000+ plus $100,000 annual bonus. As a Construction Director working in the Building Operations team, you will use your proven experience and technical expertise and be a leader in construction and project management, delivery, and excellence. Working on large-scale ICI projects up to $1 billion – you will have the opportunity to use your solution-focused and team-oriented attitude to lead a collaborative team of construction professionals.

Responsibilities, Experience, Skills of Construction Director:
  • Grow and maintain strong relationships with team members, trade partners, consultants, and clients to achieve the project goals and vision.
  • Support your construction and project management teams to develop and drive the construction schedule ensuring that completion dates and milestones are met.
  • Proficient in risk management and oversight of potential issues, implementing early mitigation.
  • Put your problem-solving skills to work and recommend innovative methods that will increase effectiveness and efficiency to ensure project excellence and productivity.
  • Use your proactive approach to ensure compliance with our first-class Quality Program.
  • Utilize your experience in trade partner selection and coordination of their activities.
  • Apply your financial management experience to plan, manage, and respect project budgets, costs, and associated purchasing.
  • Share your knowledge and be a role model through mentorship opportunities with project team members.
  • Keep the lines of communication open regarding project status and updates.
  • Take pride in compiling and completing company-wide project reports.
  • Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety, and Environmental Protection on the project.
  • Effectively apply the requirements of the project-specific safety standards to promote HS&E standards, applicable OH&S acts, regulations, and codes with all employees and trade partners on the project.
  • Celebrate project success and completion and be a key member of the project wrap-up process.
Education & Experience of Construction Director:
  • 10+ years’ experience in the ICI construction industry.
  • University Degree/Technology Diploma in Engineering, or a combination of education and industry experience.
  • Experience in successfully delivering major-large scale and highly complex Design Build/Public-Private Partnership (P3) projects; Healthcare an asset.
  • Track record of success in both Project Management and Site Management roles.
  • Familiarity with alternate contracts (DB, P3, or similar).
  • A proven track record of project leadership, success, and team collaboration.
  • Outstanding leadership and organizational skills with the ability to effectively influence others and successfully resolve a variety of client, project, and technical issues to bring the project to successful completion.
  • Strong knowledge of construction and project methodologies, financial management, as well as building codes and associated legislation.
  • Role model status for health and safety as well as quality.
  • A passion to develop, maintain, and execute the project schedule.
  • Good computer skills and previous experience with scheduling software.
  • Ability to work on a remote site.
Compensation:
  • $200k+ plus $100,000 annual bonus.
