Job summary

Axiom-Builders is seeking a Construction Accountant to join our team on an 18-month contract in Vancouver, BC. You will work closely with project teams to ensure financial accuracy, maintain project budgets and support overall project performance through solid accounting practices.

You thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage subcontractor invoicing, change orders, holdbacks and progress billing, and collaborate with project managers and internal teams to keep projects financially organized

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of project accounting and job costing in construction.
• Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Proficient in Excel and ERP systems such as Acumatica or Sage.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with clients and teams.

Responsibilities

• Monitor project costs and ensure accurate coding to approved budgets.
• Review subcontractor invoices, change orders and holdbacks.
• Prepare monthly progress billing invoices per contractual requirements.
• Post cash receipts and maintain accounts receivable; follow up on past due amounts.
• Respond to inquiries from Project Managers and subcontractors.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close for assigned projects.
• Generate and maintain project financial reports and statements.
• Track holdback accounts and coordinate releases with subcontractors and finance.

Job description

As a Construction Accountant, you will join our team on an 18-month contract and work closely with project teams and cross-functional teams to ensure financial accuracy, maintain project budgets, and support overall project performance through effective accounting practices. You thrive working independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, while also contributing to a collaborative and supportive team culture. In this role, you’ll play an important part in keeping projects financially organized and running smoothly, while building strong working relationships with project managers, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor project costs to ensure accurate coding in alignment with approved project budgets;
• Review and process subcontractors invoices, change orders and holdbacks;
• Prepare monthly progress billing invoices in accordance with contractual requirements;
• Post monthly cash receipts and maintain accounts receivable is up to date and follow up on past due accounts;
• Respond to inquiries from Project Managers, subtrades, suppliers, management and other project staff;
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes for assigned projects including reconciliations, project cost forecasting and other reports;
• Generate and maintain project financial reports and statements as required;
• Track construction holdback accounts and coordinate holdback releases with subcontractors, project teams, and the finance department.

Skills & Experience

• Minimum of two to three (2–3) years of experience in project accounting and job costing, preferably within the construction industry;
• Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field;
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
• Experience with Acumatica, or other ERP systems such as Sage/Timberline;
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with clients, subcontractors, and internal project teams;
• Previous experience with Procore will be considered an asset.
