Team Overview

The Senior Advisor, Wellness Programs is part of the Total Rewards & Wellness team and works closely with HR Advisory Services (HRBPs and Employee Relations), other HR Centers of Expertise, employees, and their leaders. The Senior Advisor, Wellness Programs will lead the implementation of workplace accommodation strategies, services, and resources. This role involves providing expert guidance to stakeholders, building effective relationships, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Additionally, this role will support complex disability management cases (occupational and non-occupational) and promote an integrated approach to wellness programs and services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and respond effectively to accommodation requests (medical and non-medical), engaging with employees, leaders, and other internal stakeholders (e.g. HRBPs, Employee Relations, Facilities, Legal) to work through barriers and develop solutions.
  • Proactively manage complex disability cases (occupational and non-occupational).
  • Develop, improve, and deliver wellness programs/services employing a holistic and collaborative approach.
  • Design and deliver awareness sessions to internal stakeholders on accommodation and disability management best practices and engage proactively with Employee Resource Groups.
  • Engage with EDC’s external disability management provider on medical cases, ensuring seamless coordination of files with a focus on the overall employee experience.
  • Stay updated on best practices and emerging trends in workplace accommodations, disability management, and accessibility, and recommend improvements and changes to programs and services.
  • Maintain accurate case records and prepare regular program reports.
  • Facilitate return to work meetings with relevant stakeholders including employees, leaders, and EDC’s external disability management provider.
  • Work within applicable workplace policies, Human Rights, Accessibility, and Canada Labour Code legislation and regulations.

Screening Criteria

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in human resources management, with at least 4 years of hands-on employee relations/labour relations experience managing accommodations and complex disability management cases in a relevant professional context.
  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources or a related field of study.
  • Advanced knowledge of workplace accommodation, disability management, and return to work principles and practices.
  • Strong communication skills in English and French, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to exercise appropriate discretion and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and confidential cases.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Strong planning, organization, and time management skills.

Assets

  • Mental Health First Aid or similar training.
  • Disability Management/Return to Work certification.
  • CHRP Designation.

Salary

HR Generalist 18: Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,219 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Location

  • Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
  • This role will be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa.
  • Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.
