Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years related experience as a Funeral Assistant.
• Licenses: Current state/province issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Knowledge/Abilities: Basic knowledge of religious and fraternal organizations customs.
• Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of computers and MS Office Suite.
• Attributes: High level of compassion and integrity.
• Communication: Good communication skills.
• Problem solving: Good problem solving skills.
• Organization: Ability to multi task and set priorities.
• Detail oriented: Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Organiser and direct funeral rites, including ceremonies, with empathy and professionalism.
• Confirm authorization to arrangements.
• Ensure families are informed about veterans services and ensure execution as requested.
• Assist at services: coordinate parking, guide guests, drive funeral vehicles, assist in chapel, services and cemetery, deliver flowers and keepsakes, arrange seating.
• In absence of pre-arrangements counselor, provide post-death services and deliver documentation, insurance, medical and pension information, and pre-arrangements for next of kin.
• Refer potential referrals to pre-arrangements counselors.
• Comply with regulations of authorities at municipal, provincial, and federal levels.
• Prepare and complete documents and online forms related to services, cremation, and maintenance.
• Assist with general office tasks like answering phones and preparing reports.
• Help with vehicle, premises, and property upkeep.
• Receive coffins and other funeral home equipment and organize inventory.
• Ensure refreshments are offered where legally permitted.
