Job description

Connected to a Senior Residence or Programme? Help Us Spread Some Joy!

1-1 hours

This is a brief, one-time commitment.

DO YOU HAVE A PERSONAL CONNECTION TO A LOCAL LONG-TERM CARE HOME, HOSPICE, ASSISTED LIVING RESIDENCE, MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM, OR SENIOR CENTRE?We’d love your help spreading the word—only if it’s a place you already know.Letters Against Isolation is a volunteer-run nonprofit that coordinates volunteers to mail friendly, handwritten letters to seniors who may be feeling isolated. We’re expanding our outreach in Canada and would be grateful for help connecting with care facilities and senior programmes that could benefit from receiving letters. If you already know a senior programme or residence—perhaps one you’ve volunteered with, worked at, or where a friend or family member lives—they can learn about us and register here: → → → https://www.lettersagainstisolation.com/care-homesPlease do not sign up on behalf of a facility. A staff member (such as a director or programme manager) must complete the form themselves. If you or someone you know might enjoy writing letters to brighten a senior’s day, we’d love to have you join us. Check out our listing on Volunteer Connector:→ → → https://www.volunteerconnector.org/calgary/letters-against-isolation/volunteer-from-home-write-friendly-letters-to-seniorsThanks for helping us deliver more smiles to seniors’ mailboxes!

Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?

By investing a small amount of time to reach out to someone you know, you'll generate opportunities for volunteers to send friendly, conversational letters to isolated senior citizens. Letters Against Isolation also offers a student community service verification programme that empowers high school and university students to build skills in empathy and connection while documenting their volunteering for The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE), coursework, scholarships and service competitions.
