Position Details

This is a 0.50 FTE position working on a Wednesday/Thursday 0800-1600 schedule, alternating every other Friday.

About the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital

The FPH is a 190-bed secure facility in Coquitlam, BC, on the traditional territory of the kwikwəƛ̓əm First Nation. It provides specialized care for individuals found not criminally responsible or unfit to stand trial due to mental health issues, utilizing a clinical program model to meet patient needs.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct intake and comprehensive assessments of adults with severe psychiatric and behavioral issues, utilizing evidence-based practices, and prepare reports for legal and clinical review.
  2. Provide direct treatment for concurrent disorders, including individual, group, and family therapies, and develop psychosocial programs targeting social skills, anger management, and relapse prevention.
  3. Develop community treatment plans upon patient discharge, provide outreach services, and foster collaborations with community agencies and programs.
  4. Offer consultation and training to staff and act as a resource for program development and case management.
  5. Participate in BC Review Board hearings and respond to inquiries from legal and review bodies.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in an Allied Health Discipline from a recognized program.
  • Minimum of three years recent experience in an addictions and mental health setting or equivalent.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License; local travel may be required.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous health disparities, systemic racism, and commitment to anti-racism and cultural safety in healthcare.
Core Competencies and Skills
  • Expertise in psychosocial assessments and therapeutic interventions.
  • Understanding of Indigenous-specific racism, systemic barriers, and legislative frameworks.
  • Ability to foster a culturally safe environment and incorporate Indigenous ways of knowing into care.
Additional Information

Benefits include professional development, comprehensive benefits, flexible work options, and wellness resources. Salary ranges from $42.27 to $52.81 per hour, with additional security allowances.
