Job summary

Jardeg-Construction is seeking Concrete Finisher Journeypersons and Apprentices to work on the North Calgary Water Services project in Calgary, AB. The role requires concrete finishing expertise, the CSTS 2020/WHMIS certifications, and legal eligibility to work in Canada.

Local candidates only, with day shifts and a 5 days on/2 days off schedule. Responsibilities include supervising concrete mixing, directing pours, finishing floors and edges, and repairing surfaces.

Qualifications

• Experience with concrete finishing is required.
• Certifications CSTS 2020 and WHMIS must be current.
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and/or supervise mixing concrete and direct pouring and finishing.
• Place and finish floors, sidewalks, curbs, and other structures.
• Repair, waterproof and restore concrete surfaces as needed.
• Set forms, align and level surfaces, and finish edges and joints.
• Operate hand/power tools and vibrators to consolidate and finish concrete.
• Prepare surfaces for bonding and apply curing compounds.
• Signal equipment and ensure safe, efficient workflow.

Jardeg is currently recruiting forConcrete Finisher Journeypersons and Apprentices to work with Technical Workforce Inc. at theFNorth Calgary Water Servicing site in Calgary, AB!

This position is a 5 days on and 2 days off schedule with the possibility of working afternoons, evenings, and weekends. At this time, only local candidates will be considered.

Responsibilities:

• Inspect and/or supervise the mixing of concrete
• Direct pouring, tamps, screeds, floats; and prepare for finishing troweling and edging
• Place and finish concrete floors, sidewalks, curbs, bridge decks and other concrete structures
• Repair, waterproof and restore concrete surfaces
• Level and smooth the surface, round the edges, and make joints or grooves to help control cracking on the surface
• Perform hand troweling for hard to reach spots in corners, edges, and around pipes
• Set the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth, and alignment
• Spread, level, and smooth concrete, using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float
• Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge
• Signal truck driver to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete, and move chute to direct concrete on forms
• Produce rough concrete surface, using broom
• Operate power vibrator to compact concrete
• Cut out damaged areas, drill holes for reinforcing rods, and position reinforcing rods to repair concrete, using power saw and drill
• Wet concrete surface, and rub with stone to smooth surface and obtain specified finish
• Wet surface to prepare for bonding, fill holes and cracks with grout or slurry, and smooth, using trowel
• Clean chipped area, using wire brush, and feel and observe surface to determine if it is rough or uneven
• Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure surface of concrete, and waterproof or restore surface
• Chip, scrape, and grind high spots, ridges, and rough projections to finish concrete, using pneumatic chisels, power grinders, or hand tools
• Install anchor bolts, steel plates, door sills and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete and/or pattern or stamp the surface to provide a decorative finish
• Experience with concrete finishing required
• Experience using hand and power tools, cutting and fastening tools, chipping and abrading tools
• Experience using vibrators to consolidate concrete
• Experience using floats and darbies
• Experience using trowels, edgers and joiners, brushes and finishing brooms
• Certificate: CSTS 2020/ WHMIS
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
