Are you a Radiological Technologist or Nuclear Medicine Technologists under the Health Science Professionals Bargaining Agreement (HSPBA) looking to further your career within Island Health? Are you a Radiological Technologists or Nuclear Medicine Technologist looking to further your career and become a new member of the exciting care team at Island Health? We are excited to announce that Island Health's Department of Medical Imaging is offering an employer-sponsored education opportunity to join our diagnostic team. The Computed Tomography (CT) Specialty Education Training Program is a paid training program for existing Radiological Technologists or Nuclear Medicine Technologists wishing to advance their education and begin an exciting new career within Computed Tomography.

Here's What You Need To Know

  • The Specialty Education Training will occur over one 16 week term: The didactic component (distance education) will occur concurrent with the supernumerary clinical component.
    • Participants will be scheduled 7.5hr/week paid time to complete distance education course work from home or the worksite. Employees will be required to complete all distance education outlined in the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) Computed Tomography Imaging Certificate (CTIC) program.
    • Participants will be scheduled 30hrs/week paid time in a Computed Tomography department to complete supernumerary clinical education. Cases completed will count towards completion of the CAMRT Summary of Clinical Competence. Completion of the Summary of Clinical Competence will continue into the employee's first position as a Computed Tomography Technologist.
  • Island Health will invest the following Sponsorship Costs for each sponsored employee enrolled in the Specialty Education Training Opportunity:
    • The cost of the employees' tuition, fees and books.
    • 600 hours of scheduled paid education time throughout the 16 week specialty education period.
  • Once employees have successfully completed the Specialty Education Training Opportunity they will encumber their position associated with the individual education opportunity. Please refer to the specific VI Hire posting for position information.
  • Successful participants are required to complete a twelve month return-of-service working as a Computed Tomography Technologist with Island Health Medical Imaging.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience

Graduation from an approved Radiology Technology or Nuclear Medicine diploma program. Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) certification as a Medical Radiation Technologist or a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. Eligible for membership in the CAMRT.

Additional qualifications as per the CAMRT CT Imaging Certificate prerequisites: Successful completion of Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) of CAMRT's CT Imaging 1 (CT1) exam. A minimum mark of 75% is required.
