COMPOSITING PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR

SPIN VFX, Toronto seeks an outstanding leader for our dynamic award winning VFX team. The Composting Production Supervisor is responsible for managing the compositing department, ensuring best practices are established and maintained, and supporting resource initiatives. The ideal candidate offers a confident and approachable leadership style, solution based problem solving, and proactive team management skills.
Responsibilities
● Work in partnership with the Head of Compositing to address issues, present strategies and establish solutions.
● Assist with coordinating the schedule for the Head of Compositing.
● Work with compositing coordinators to manage assignments and ensure tasks are completed within the scheduled time.
● Work with senior producers to determine weekly allocation of compositing resources.
● Produce weekly resource forecasts to determine department overages and shortfalls based on approved project bids.
● Determine whether outsource work is required to meet project deadlines.
● Attend weekly production meetings and provide progress updates.
● Assist in managing the compositing team across multiple active projects.
● Assist in managing weekly artist time logs and overtime requirements.
● Attend turn over meetings and launches to identify requirements and ensure all information is distributed to the compositing team.
● Work with production managers and coordinators to ensure the smooth daily operation of the compositing department.
● Work with show production and compositing leads to distribute shot assignments appropriately among artists.
● With the compositing leads, assess all new shots for roto/prep requirements, and assign roto/prep tasks to artists.
● Facilitate effective communication between comp and other departments within the company.
● Ensure Shotgun is kept up to date, and verify that status, scope, bid information and due dates are accurate for all compositing and prep tasks. Follow up with show production if this information is not available.
● Follow up with upstream departments and show production if products required to complete a task are not available.
● Ensure all compositing artists have a clear understanding of their project scope and deadlines.
● Be the first point of contact for all artists on the compositing team, and routinely check in with artists to identify any bottlenecks for production.
● Assist with the onboarding of new artists on the compositing team.
● Participate in compositing interviews and assist with recruiting initiatives.
Requirements
● Production management and leadership experience for feature film visual effects.
● Proactive team management and positive work ethic.
● Ability to implement fast, effective solutions to production challenges.
● Experience in leading and training others.
● Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
● Ability to manage multiple jobs and responsibilities concurrently.
● Calm and effective communication and leadership skills at all times.
