Driving Compliance and Sustainability Excellence

As the Supervisor, Compliance and Sustainability, you’ll lead a dedicated team and oversee key programs that ensure our products and packaging meet environmental regulations across Canada. Led by the Manager, Compliance & Sustainability, you’ll play a hands-on role in managing EPR reporting and environmental handling fees, with a strong focus on aligning with Ontario’s evolving regulatory landscape. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and brings a practical, solutions-focused approach to compliance and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Leading and implementing Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs to reduce costs, waste, improve efficiency, and lower carbon emissions.
  • Maintaining the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database, chemical formulas database, and packaging and printed paper database, ensuring product packaging meets labeling standards (bilingual, CCCR, etc.).
  • Managing EPR databases, including collecting and maintaining product data for government reporting and compliance with regional, provincial, and federal policies.
  • Gathering Environmental Handling Fee (EHF) information for audits to ensure compliance with EPR programs across Canada.
  • Overseeing Home Hardware’s Product & Packaging Sustainability Program, focusing on cost reduction and pollution prevention.
  • Continuously improving reporting and data collection methodologies based on best practices.
  • Preparing internal and external reports, data summaries, and presentations.
  • Collaborating with the Master Data team to ensure accurate product certifications and labeling compliance (Energy Star, WaterSense, CSA, UL, FSC, etc.).
  • Leading, coaching, and developing a team of Compliance and Sustainability Analysts.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs, especially with provincial legislation.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian environmental compliance and regulations.
  • Expertise in EPR and product compliance, providing guidance to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Focus on process efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to interpret complex legislation and communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Proven leadership skills in coaching and team development.
  • Solutions-oriented decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in PowerBI, Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in the retail industry is an asset.
  • Availability to work onsite three days a week at our St. Jacobs office as part of a hybrid work model.

What We Offer:

Our team members enjoy a supportive and inclusive culture, excellent benefits, and perks, including:

  • Competitive salary and annual incentive/bonus.
  • Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, paramedical, disability, travel insurance, life insurance, and an Employee Family Assistance Program.
