The Company
B2Gold is a responsible international senior gold producer headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. Founded in 2007, today, B2Gold has operating gold mines in Mali, Namibia and the Philippines, the Goose Project under construction in northern Canada, and numerous development and exploration projects in various countries including Mali, Colombia and Finland.


Position
Compliance Engineer


Introduction
Reporting to the Manager, Projects, this position will be responsible for various mine permitting and compliance duties including document preparation and communication with regulatory authorities. The position will also include frequent interaction with site management and operations departments. Initial projects will be focused on supporting the Goose Project at Back River in Nunavut, Canada, but may also include B2Gold’s international projects. The successful candidate will be a responsible and self-directed professional who is comfortable working in a dynamic environment where there is frequent change. International and domestic travel may be required.


Location
This is a full-time position based at B2Gold Corporate Office in Vancouver, Canada with a flexible work arrangement option available.


Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Act as internal authority on mine regulations for B2Gold’s operations and projects;
  2. Develop and maintain register of mine permits and their statuses;
  3. Prepare permitting applications to regulatory authorities, with use of engineering stamp and seal as appropriate;
  4. Work closely with a number of departments including environmental, safety and emergency response, blasting and explosives, open pit and underground operations.
  5. Support annual and Life of Mine planning processes, ensuring that mine designs and plans meet B2Gold and industry standard safety and regulatory parameters;
  6. Review and report on the status and outlook of mining operations regularly and as needed;
  7. Maintain communication with sites in relation to mining activities, including mining production personnel, environmental personnel, department managers, and mine managers;
  8. Travel to current and future operations and projects of B2Gold as required;
  9. Maintain current on industry best practice and international performance standards;
  10. Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.


Requirements

  1. Technical diploma, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Engineering or similar from an accredited university or college;
  2. Professional Certification (P. Eng., P.E., or similar), preferably registered with NAPEG would be an asset;
  3. Minimum seven years of experience in the mining industry, with site experience preferred;
  4. Significant exposure to Canadian mining regulatory processes, preferably in Nunavut and Northwest Territories;
  5. Strong knowledge, practice, and understanding of surface and underground mine design, operations, safety, and environmental considerations;
  6. Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft software (Word, Outlook, Excel, Project) and mine design/planning systems (Deswik, MineSite, Datamine, Surpac, Vulcan, etc.); The B2Gold Corporate team primarily uses Deswik.
  7. Experience working with and/or managing consultants and teams directly and remotely is an asset;
  8. Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  9. Able to work collaboratively in a team environment but also available to work independently with minimum supervision;
  10. Available to think strategically with a big-picture mindset;
  11. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.


Additional Desired Qualifications

  1. Experience working with mining companies, capital markets experience, and a financial modelling background considered as strong assets.


Job Demands/Physical Requirements

  1. This position is based out of our Vancouver head office with a flexible work arrangement option available;
  2. This position might be required for domestic and international travel on short notice (up to approximately 15% of the time annually).

B2Gold offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary commensurate with the candidate’s experience, knowledge and skill set, and a comprehensive benefit package for employees and their eligible dependents. The base salary range for this position is CAD $140,000.00 – 170,000.00 per annum, which is the anticipated pay at the time of hire but does not reflect similar future job opportunities. Details of the total compensation package will be shared during the interview process.
