The 53 North Collection is seeking a Complex Director of Finance to oversee the finance functions for three boutique properties: The Matrix Hotel in downtown Edmonton, and the Metterra and Varscona Hotels on Whyte Avenue. We are committed to providing:

Responsibilities – Job Specifics

  • Serve as the “Chief Business Officer” to general managers and the Executive Committee, evaluating the financial impact of business decisions.
  • Notify management of any financial deviations or control weaknesses promptly.
  • Manage cash flow, including preparation of cash-flow statements, receivables, cash balances, control mechanisms, and deposits.
  • Monitor revenues and expenses, ensuring accurate recording and analyzing variances, offering improvement strategies.
  • Manage property leasing agreements with vendors.
  • Assist in capital planning, including ROI calculations, bid process oversight, and scope evaluation.
  • Ensure compliance with all licenses, permits, leases, contracts, and taxes, providing enforcement support.
  • Coordinate forecasts and budgets with active participation from the team.
  • Analyze financial data to advise management on maintaining financial objectives.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and bank statements timely.
  • Maintain internal controls over purchasing, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, assets, payroll, and employee records.
  • Hire, develop, and retain finance staff, fostering growth and promoting internal talent.
  • Focus on continuous training and development for the finance team.
  • Ensure compliance with Crescent Hotels & Resorts standards and regulations for safe and efficient operations.

Qualifications and Standards

Education & Experience:

  • At least 4 years in a Hotel Director of Finance role.
  • Degree or diploma in finance, accounting, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • Proven expertise in P&L management, forecasting, budgeting, and cash management.
  • Understanding of hospitality operations, business law, taxes, and employment regulations.
  • Strong decision-making, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills; experience with Profitsage, M3, and Birchstreet is a plus.
