Fort Albany First Nation Prevention & Representative Services in Timmins, ON is seeking an Infant Wellness Worker. The position supports prenatal and early childhood wellness, delivering programs to strengthen family wellness in the community.

The role involves home visiting, education, and connecting families to resources, with a goal of preventing child welfare involvement and promoting healthy family development. 35 hours/week, term to March 31, 2027.

Qualifications

  • Social Work diploma or degree and/or related discipline.
  • Relevant work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • The ability to speak Cree is an asset.
  • Vital critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Receive referrals, connect with family, build rapport, develop Family Wellness Plan.
  • Assist family in achieving wellness goals through in-home support services (cleaning, organizing, meal planning, routines, budgeting, educational awareness).
  • Facilitating tailored therapeutic activities, connecting them to appropriate programming/referral sources and providing financial assistance when necessary.
  • Conduct Ages & Stages Screener (Nurturing the Seed) when necessary and assist in Developmental Support Planning with family.
  • Deliver consistent community programming with a focus on parenting/parent-child relationship.
  • Facilitate educational/awareness presentations on infant/early childhood mental health, nutrition, screen time, attachment, routines, maternal/paternal mental health, family bonding.
  • Collaborate with local community resources on initiatives that promote family wellness.

Position: Infant Wellness Worker Term: March 31, 2027

Department:Child Welfare/Prevention Location: Timmins, ON

Hours: 35Hours per week Salary Range: TBD

Reports to:Prevention Team Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Infant Wellness Worker is responsible for thedelivery of programs and services that aim to strengthen family wellnessstarting prenatally, as well as throughout infancy and toddlerhood for familiesin the community. The overall purpose of the Prevention Program is to preventchild welfare involvement in families and to reduce the number of children incare. The length of time that a family stay connected to anInfant Wellness Worker is dependent on the needs of the family, as well astheir family wellness goals. The Infant WellnessProgram is an integral part of the Prevention program. TheInfant Wellness Program plays a key role in preventing child welfareinvolvement in families by:

  • Providing support, education andawareness to families starting at the very beginning of a child’s life and
  • Helping parents/caregivers to supporttheir children throughout the most critical developmental period of theirlives. However, in the case that families are already involved with childwelfare, the Infant & Child Wellness Program collaborates with parents/caregiversto address and resolve the identified child welfare concerns and
  • Providing both one-to-one support forfamilies and group/community programming and
  • Providing one-to-one in-home support toparents/caregivers and
  • Providing communityprogramming/activities relevant to promoting family wellness of this specificpopulation.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct Ages & Stages Screener(Nurturing the Seed) when necessary and assist in Developmental SupportPlanning with family.
  • Deliver consistent communityprogramming with a focus on parenting/parent-child relationship (I.e., Makingthe Connection, Calm Cool Connected, Healthy Family Kitchen, Talk & Task,pre/post-natal vouchers, etc.)
  • Facilitate educational/awarenesspresentations on the following topics: infant/early childhood mental health,nutrition, screen time, attachment, the importance of routines,maternal/paternal mental health, family bonding, etc.
  • Collaborate with local communityresources on various initiatives that promote family wellness in your targetpopulation when available (NAAW, Mental Health Week, etc.)
