Job summary

Cogir Senior Living in Canada is seeking an Assistant Cook to support the preparation and delivery of meals for residents, guests and staff under the Culinary Manager. This role emphasizes safe food handling, menu review, dietary accommodations, and adherence to production schedules and regulations within a healthcare or retirement setting, requiring teamwork, reliability and care for residents.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Food Handler’s Certificate.
• Red Seal Certificate preferred.
• Experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in healthcare or retirement settings.
• Knowledge of Provincial Food Premises Regulation and Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating.
• Knowledge of and experience with special and therapeutic diets.
• Must be physically able to lift and transfer heavy items and stand for long shifts.
• Second language is an asset.
• VPS screening within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver foods for residents, guests and employees.
• Review menus and production sheets; prepare and serve meals attractively.
• Ensure proper food handling techniques.
• Complete daily temperature audits for fridges, freezers and storerooms.
• Prepare/serve foods for therapeutic/specialty diets.
• Make menu substitutions and record them.
• Adhere to service time schedules.
• Follow production charts and recipes within budget.
• Comply with regulations and departmental policies.
• Participate in special occasion and theme meal planning.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings and other necessary sessions.
• Respect Resident Rights & Responsibilities.
• Participate in Quality Improvement Program.
• Follow health and safety procedures and code of conduct.
• Complete all other tasks as assigned.
