Job summary

Peterborough Retirement Residence in Peterborough, ON, seeks a Housekeeping Aide on a temporary part-time 3-month contract. The role involves cleaning, sanitizing, and assisting residents, with a starting wage of $17.80 per hour.

Shift pattern includes 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, 40 hours bi-weekly, across Sundays, Thursdays and occasionally midweek days. Responsibilities include cleaning, laundry (potential), training, infection control, and protecting residents' privacy.

Qualifications

• Must read, write and understand oral and written instructions.
• CPR & First Aid certificate preferred.
• Prior housekeeping experience in hospitality or retirement home.
• Experience in health care/hospitality is an asset.
• Empathy for the elderly.
• Ability to connect with residents and promote social interactions.
• Familiar with Retirement Homes Act and OH&S Act.
• Clear vulnerable sector screen, TB test within 6 months, and three supervisory references.

Responsibilities

• Performs housekeeping tasks including surface cleaning, disinfecting, vacuuming, sweeping, washing, polishing, and waste management.
• May include laundry services.
• Completes mandatory training as scheduled.
• Maintains safe infection control and health and safety practices.
• Respects privacy and dignity of residents.
• Reports safety or risk concerns to supervisor.
• Maintains communication with Residents, families, and colleagues.
• Promotes the Residents’ Bill of Rights and home values.
• Other tasks as assigned.
