Job summary

Fraser Health is seeking a Health Care Assistant to work in an acute department under the supervision of nursing staff. You will provide personal care, help with mobility and meals, and document patient progress on charts as part of a collaborative interprofessional team.

You will participate in routine care activities, assist with admissions and transfers, maintain unit cleanliness and equipment, and attend meetings or training as required by the department.

Qualifications

• Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
• Current Food Safe Level One, as required.

Responsibilities

• Provides personal care to patients including toileting, bathing, grooming and mobility.
• Observes and reports patient progress and any changes to the nurse.
• Assists patients with meals, checks dietary restrictions, serves and feeds as directed.
• Measures routine vitals and collects non-sterile specimens as directed.
• Documents daily living activities and observations on patient charts.
• Transports patients using wheelchairs, lifts or stretchers.
• Assists in admission, discharge and transfer planning and handling belongings.
• Prepares charts for new patients and attaches documents per protocol.
• Performs general duties such as answering calls, stocking supplies, cleaning and maintaining rooms.
• Participates in committees, meetings and training sessions as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
