Job summary

Seabird Island Band is seeking a Health Care Aide / Home Support Worker to provide compassionate, culturally safe care to Elders and community members at home. You will support personal care, daily living activities, and wellness needs while helping clients maintain independence and dignity.

Qualifications

• HCA Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry is an asset (or required, if applicable).
• Minimum two years of experience providing home support or health care services, preferably in a community setting.
• Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
• Successful tuberculosis (TB) screening.
• Ability to provide personal care and support services in a respectful, compassionate, and culturally safe manner.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence, reliable transportation, and a satisfactory driver's abstract.
• Ability to comply with Seabird Island policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care and daily living support to Elders and community members in accordance with individualized care plans.
• Assist clients with mobility, personal hygiene, meal preparation, nutrition, and other activities that promote health, safety, and independence.
• Offer companionship, emotional support, and culturally respectful care that enhances quality of life and overall well-being.
• Support clients with light housekeeping, errands, and home support activities that enable them to remain safely in their homes.
• Monitor client well-being and communicate observations, concerns, and changes in condition to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
• Maintain accurate and confidential documentation while supporting continuity of care across services and care providers.
• Collaborate with families, caregivers, health professionals, and community partners to support holistic client care.
• Promote safe, healthy, and supportive home environments through infection prevention, safety awareness, and adherence to care standards.
• Assist clients in accessing community resources, health services, and wellness programs as appropriate.
• Participate in community outreach, health promotion initiatives, and wellness activities that strengthen community health and connection.
