Job summary

The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is seeking a Community Health Instructor to support the Healthy Living Initiative. You will assist in program delivery, participant assessments and collaboration with fitness professionals to promote physical, social and emotional wellness.

The role requires flexibility, strong communication and a commitment to inclusive community health. Casual staff with varied shifts will support events and on‑site activities.

Qualifications

• First Aid and CPR/AED certification is required.
• Certification in group fitness or personal training is an asset.
• Experience with individuals managing chronic conditions or in a clinical/health setting.
• Experience conducting fitness or health assessments and developing exercise programs.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Community Health Manager (CHM) and oversee Healthy Living Initiative (HLI) programs, ensuring safe and effective exercises for all abilities.
• Conduct participant intake assessments: vitals, medical history, risk evaluation, and functional tests.
• Support day‑to‑day HLI administration: contacting registrants and providers, maintaining records, and preparing presentations.
• Support student placements (medical, nursing, health or related fields) under CHM supervision.
• Engage with members to promote health, social connection and overall wellness.
• Collaborate with YMCA staff to develop in‑person or blended programs for chronic conditions.
• Deliver safe instruction for individual and group fitness activities and promptly address member needs.
• Maintain a welcoming, clean fitness environment and assist with events and program improvements.
