We have one (1) permanent full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. This position will be working from Monday to Friday, 0800 - 1500.

The Float positions must be flexible to work with different clients and are ideal for those who enjoy variety and a dynamic work environment.

Program Summary

The Calgary Alternative Day Options (CADO) program is a community-based day program serving adults with disabilities. The program occurs in inclusive settings which allow natural interaction with a variety of people. Clients can choose to do one or more of the following: self-employment, volunteering, recreation & leisure. For each of these options, clients are supported to set goals, develop new skills, and create natural supports within the community.

Job Summary

The Community Support Worker (CSW) is an essential role to the service Calgary Alternative Support Services Inc. (CASS) provides to clients. This role supports clients to build a strong sense of empowerment; the ability to make positive decisions; and help establish themselves as a part of their community. It also provides development and stability in our client’s daily activities.

This role is responsible for establishing professional boundaries with the client; providing guidance regarding emotional support, daily living skills, and engagement with community resources based on the goals laid out in their Individual Support Plan (ISP).

Key Responsibilities

Client

  • Establish respectful and professional boundaries while developing positive working relationships with clients;
  • Assist clients in the development and monitoring of goals and objectives indicated in their Individual Support Plan (ISP);
  • Support individuals in areas such as living independently or increasing independence, including daily living skills, community inclusion, recreation & leisure activities, and health management as directed by the client coordinator;
  • Establish and maintain positive professional relationships with client guardians and supports where applicable.

Agency

  • Understand and adhere to CASS Policies & Procedures and program-specific expectations as defined in the Operations Manuals;
  • Check email communications at the beginning of every shift;
  • Complete client and agency paperwork timely, including timesheets, expenses, summaries, hazard reports, incident reports;
  • Participate actively in the CASS Health & Safety program and adhere to policies in accordance with Alberta OHS legislation;
  • Maintain valid certifications in all required training and additional support-related training.

  • Show respect and collaboration with all stakeholders;
  • Give and receive honest, balanced feedback.

Education Required

Post-secondary education in Human Services.

Skills Requirements

  • Maintain confidentiality;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Approach situations positively;
  • Adapt communication styles;
  • Display patience;
  • Knowledge supporting adults with developmental disabilities preferred;
  • Current Emergency or Standard First Aid with CPR/AED;
  • Police check with vulnerable sectors search satisfactory to CASS.

Other Skills & Requirements

  • A vehicle and valid driver’s license are assets.
