Job summary

Strive Living Society in Coquitlam, BC is seeking a Community Support Worker to provide one-to-one support in our Hybrid Supported Home Share Program. The successful candidate will promote a safe, meaningful daily routine, support community inclusion, and help achieve the individual’s quality of life and personal goals, including high-support needs with self-injurious behaviours.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting individuals with complex or challenging behaviours.
  • Follows behavioural support plans, safety plans, protocols, and structured routines.
  • Experience and comfort providing full personal care and hygiene support.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn medication administration.
  • Understanding of developmental disabilities, mental health, and challenging behaviours.
  • Ability to remain calm, consistent, and responsive during escalation or crisis.
  • Ability to create and maintain a meaningful and engaging routine.
  • Ability to encourage independence while providing appropriate support.
  • Ability to support walks, community outings, and recreational activities.
  • Ability to establish rapport while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to complete daily documentation using a Microsoft-based database.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Description

Strive Living Society is looking for a Community Support Worker to provide one-to-one support to an adult in our Hybrid Supported Home Share Program.

The successful candidate will provide individualized support focused on maintaining a safe and meaningful daily routine, promoting community inclusion, and supporting the individual’s quality of life and personal goals.

This position involves supporting an individual with high support needs, including significant self-injurious behaviours. We are looking for someone who is calm, confident, consistent, and comfortable following established behavioural support and safety protocols.

Weekend shifts are 8 hours per day on Saturdays and Sundays, with some flexibility around the specific start and end times.

Pay rate: $27.53/hour *plus benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements.

*Some benefits have eligibility requirements of surpassing three (3) months and securing a regular position of 20 hours/week or more. The benefits and criteria may change from time to time at the discretion of Strive.

The ideal applicant shall possess:

  • Experience supporting individuals with complex or challenging behaviours, including self-injurious behaviours
  • Experience following behavioural support plans, safety plans, protocols, and structured routines
  • Experience and comfort providing full personal care and hygiene support
  • Experience with or willingness to learn medication administration
  • Experience and understanding of developmental disabilities, mental health, and challenging behaviours
  • Ability to remain calm, consistent, and responsive during behavioural escalation or crisis situations
  • Ability to create and maintain a meaningful and engaging routine
  • Ability to encourage independence while providing the appropriate level of support
  • Ability to support walks, community outings, and recreational activities
  • Ability to establish rapport while maintaining clear and firm professional boundaries
  • Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills
  • Ability to complete daily documentation using a Microsoft-based database
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Access to a computer and reliable internet
  • Physical ability to safely perform all duties required of the position

Job qualifications include (if you do not have all of these, but demonstrate you are a good fit for the position, Strive may be able assist you to acquire some of these requirements):

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Diploma or degree in Community Support, Social Services, Human Services, or a related field preferred
  • Criminal Record Check clearance through the Ministry of Justice
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • MANDT Training – provided in-house
  • Positive Behaviour Support/Management training considered an asset
  • FoodSafe Certificate
  • Two professional references
  • Other training or requirements specific to the individual being supported
