About the RoleThe CommunitySupport Worker for Arrowhead Clubhouse creates a safe and effective clubhouseenvironment where members can see themselves as valued participants in theclubhouse community. The Community Support Worker delivers frontline services,working side-by-side with members and reports to the Program Lead.
What You’ll Do
- Facilitate an environment wheremembers’ aspirations regarding clubhouse participation, employment, education,housing, recovery, and social involvement can be realized.
- Works side-by-side with membersto assess their skills and strengths and increasetheir self-esteem and employability by executing skill buildingactivities.
- Assists and advocates formembers in obtaining entitlement benefits, psychiatric, medical and addictionstreatments, follow-up care after detox and/or rehabilitation treatment, andutilizing other community resources.
- Monitors and supportmembers struggling with addiction for risk of overdose in the building or thegarden, observes and delivers Naloxone and CPR if needed.
- Provides immediate Mental Healthcrisis intervention when needed until other services (VCH mental health teamsor RCMP) are available.
- Calmlyand proactively deescalates potential conflicts and facilitates the arrival ofthe desired outcome creating an inclusive, respectful andeffective environment for members and staff.
- Leads program activitiesincluding set up and take down of equipment and supplies to ensure smoothdelivery.
- Collaborates with the ProgramLead, program staff and members to develop and implement Clubhouse policies,procedures and programs.
- Works with the Program Lead toensure members have opportunities to be engaged in program oversight,development, evaluation and implementation.
- Conduct new memberorientations/intake.
- Ensure the clubhouse andsurrounding grounds are open on time in good operational order and ready toreceive the members.
- Respond to the needs of themembers with practical guidance and advice.
- Builds rapport with members through one-to-one active listening,encouragement and appreciation of their help, and the offering of practicalguidance and advice (when requested).
- Supports members to engage in social interactions and increase theirawareness and access to community resources.
- Collaborate with other SCCSS programs.
- Ensures effectiveservice-delivery consistent with agency mandate and policy
What You Bring
- Solidunderstanding of the strengths and challenges experienced by adults livingwith mental health and addiction challenges
- Aminimum of 2 years of experience in a related program.
- Beliefin the capacity of all members to improve their quality of life.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Comfortable working in anunpredictable environment.
- Knowledge ofmulti-cultural issues and culturally appropriate practices.
- Groupfacilitation skills.
- Demonstratedability to work collaboratively with and assist members to resolveconflicts.
- Knowledge of Universal SafetyPrecautions.
- Successfulresults of criminal records check.
- Avalid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is considered an asset.
- FirstAid Certification.
- FoodSafeCertificate is an asset.
