Job summary

The Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI) is seeking a Regular Part-Time Community Support Worker to help people engage in community activities, based on individual goals and interests. The role emphasizes person-centered planning, safety, and empowerment.

Salary is $27.53/hour for 30 hours/week, with Monday–Friday 8am–4pm schedule. Benefits include a defined pension plan after 3 months and a wellness program within a supportive team.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/certificate in Human Services or equivalent experience.
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license; access to personal vehicle.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team setting.
  • Experience or training related to autism, medical needs or challenging behaviours is an asset.
  • Knowledge of person-centered thinking and planning is preferred.
  • Proficient with computers/mobile apps.
  • Criminal Record Check, TB screen, vaccination disclosure may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Support people in one-to-one settings.
  • Provide personal care and safe transfers using mechanical lifts; assist wheelchair users.
  • Help individuals connect with friends and family.

Job description

The Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI) is a community living organization that supports people with developmental disabilities across the life span to live a ‘good life.’ Our Community Inclusion (Day Program) is looking for a Community Support Workerto work with people to pursue activities in the community based on individual interests, gifts, and defined goals. This role supports people to become active members of the community discovering and engaging with places of belonging.

POSITION: Regular Part-Time Community Support Worker
SALARY: $27.53/hour
HOURS: 30 hours/week
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday (8am-4pm) as per schedule
Responsibilities:
  • Support people in one-to-one settings.
  • This position requires providing personal care, supporting safe transfers using mechanical lifts, and assisting individuals who use wheelchairs.
  • Ensuring that individuals are connected to friends and family.
  • Providing individuals with the opportunity to make meaningful choices.
  • Encouraging and recognizing individuals' contributions.
  • Ensuring that individuals are safe and promoting their health and well-being.
  • Assist individuals to gain knowledge and experiences to enhance their independence and/or ability to participate in their community.
  • Accessing community centres, swimming, participating in outdoor activities.
Qualifications:
  • The ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently is essential.
  • Experience and specialized training related to autism, medical needs, and/or challenging behaviours is an asset.
  • Knowledge of developing and using support strategies and safety plans.
  • Knowledge and ability to use alternative communication systems would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Person-Centered Thinking and Planning preferred.
  • Working knowledge of computers/mobile apps is necessary.
  • A valid unrestricted BC Class 5 Driver’s License is required, and use of personal vehicle preferred.
  • First Aid will be provided by BACI.
  • Have access to the BACI Wellness Program – staff gatherings, birthday off, staff appreciation.
  • Are eligible for a defined pension plan and receive benefits after 3 months.

Qualifications for this position include:

Graduation from a Community College with an appropriate diploma or certificate in Human Services OR an equivalent of education and experience. A valid unrestricted BC Class 5 Driver’s License and use of personal vehicle required.

This position is open to all candidates and requires Union membership. This position requires completion of Criminal Record Search as per the Criminal Record Review Act, TB screen/self assessment, Vaccination/Immunization status disclosure.
