Job description

Safe Software is hiring a Community Specialist II to support the technical side of our FME Community. You'll help create educational content (tutorials, how-tos, KB articles), support automations that keep the community running efficiently, and use tools like Gainsight to help track community health. This role suits someone who's as comfortable digging into the back end of a tool as they are writing content for an end user — and who genuinely enjoys connecting with our users and customers and building real relationships with them along the way.

About The Team

The Community Team works to build a strong and connected FME community that fosters collaboration, feedback, and knowledge exchange across close to 50,000 users in our online community. We create, support, and manage programs that drive user engagement like the Early Adopters product feedback program, Special Interest Groups, and FME Breakfast of Champions in-person meetups. We also manage online forums, design fun and creative ways for users to learn about FME and connect with each other, and create content that keeps members informed. You'll join a friendly and supportive team that works closely with Product, Customer Success, and Marketing to amplify the voice of the community.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Write technical content: how-tos, tutorials, KB articles, blog posts tied to new FME features.
  • Support community automations and workflows using FME Flow, Gainsight, Slack, and community platform tools.
  • Help monitor community health using Gainsight/CRM data and report on trends.
  • Edit and enhance content written by others.
  • Moderate technical discussions and flag content needing correction.
  • Participate in FME events and programs such as Breakfast of Champions, Special Interest Group meetups, and community webinars.
  • Create and support creative technical engagement initiatives: Develop fun, interactive ways for FME users to learn and participate, such as technically interesting contests, challenges, community activities, and other hands-on experiences.
  • Support training content testing and technical Q&A.
  • Support technical special projects as needed.
  • Use AI tools to support content development, research, and community workflows, while applying sound judgment to review outputs for accuracy, quality, and appropriateness.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies

Safers come from a variety of backgrounds with a diversity in skills and knowledge. That said, we find that those who are most successful in this role have experience with the following areas.

Required skills:
  • 3+ years of experience in technical content creation, community management, customer engagement, or online communications.
  • Comfortable learning and writing about a technical product.
  • Strong communication and editing skills — able to help improve others' writing for clarity and accuracy.
  • Ability to coordinate and support events and programs.
  • Creative thinker, with an interest in coming up with new ways to engage users and grow the community.
  • Curiosity about the back end of how the community works, with room to grow into supporting and managing community automations.
  • Detail-oriented, with an eye for spotting content or discussions needing moderation.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with internal teams.
  • Enthusiasm for helping others and supporting a positive user experience.
  • Comfort experimenting with AI tools and identifying thoughtful ways to use them to improve how you work, while maintaining accuracy and good judgment.
Desired skills / Bonus points:
  • Experience with community platforms, CRM tools, or Gainsight (or equivalent).
  • Experience building or supporting automations/workflows.
  • Familiarity with FME or data integration/ETL tools specifically.
  • Light scripting ability for automation work.
  • Interest in learning about data integration and FME technology.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and JSON, and experience working with APIs.
What Will Help You Succeed in This Role
  • Curiosity about how technical products work under the hood.
  • Ability to translate technical complexity into clear, useful content.
  • Comfort learning back-end systems (automations, CRM data) alongside front-facing content work.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to build rapport with users.
  • Attention to detail and care in managing tasks and content.
  • Openness to feedback and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Willingness to learn new systems, tools, and subject matter.
