Community Social Services Worker

Your role - Reporting to the Supervisor, Family Wellness, you will be representing the Department of Family Services in all matters related to enhancing the overall health of individuals and families in the assigned community. As a professional in the community, you will be required to work with other associated professional bodies, including the RCMP, Mental Health, Medical Personnel, Education, Justice, and various community resources. You will be considered an essential service provider of the community. Key focus areas you would be responsible for include:

  • Prevention / Intervention Work
  • Adoptions – Departmental / Private / International
  • Child Welfare
  • Providing a liaison service at large in the Community

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Diploma in Social Work, plus 1 year of practical child protection experience. A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university plus 1 year of practical child protection experience is preferred.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 4 months of hire is a condition of employment.
  • A Vulnerable Sector check is also a requirement.
  • The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Child and Family Services Appointment.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

An eligibility list may be created to fill current and future vacancies across the Department of Family Services in all communities.
