Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
This position will provide general support to various services in the Community and Family Services setting of a Ministry Unit.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
• As directed, support pre-planned program activities for the community (food bank, crafts, sports, games, music, homework stations, Bible-based devotions, community church, meetings etc.).
• Work in a team setting supporting various tasks and activities.
• Provide general administrative support greeting visitors, supporting reception, forwarding visitors, etc.
• Provide general assistance during public relations events and regular campaigns.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all matters pertaining to the program participants.
• Adhere to policies and procedures relating to the programs.
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Internal: MU leadership and staff, volunteers.
External: Might have to communicate with community members.

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the Community and Family Services Manager.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
Minor material responsibilities.
• The incumbent will not be involved in receiving, handling or disbursement of funds.

The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The incumbent’s work environment is typically in an office/warehouse environment.
• May be required to move/lift to 30 pounds.

  • This is a temporary part-time position based on 30 hours per week.

  • Flexibility in scheduling is required and schedule may vary from week to week.

  • This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for long periods of time.

  • The working environment is typically in the food bank /warehouse in generally agreeable conditions.

  • Normal hours of work: The hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements which are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable. Some weekend and evening work may be required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
• Completion of some high school course work is required.
• CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired.

*Current, valid Safe Food Handling Certification or willingness to obtain.


Experience and Knowledge:
• The incumbent must have a year of related experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Submit as required a Police Record Check that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion.

  • This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:

  • aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,

  • holds a valid Social Insurance Number; and, be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

  • *International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.

  • An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.20 to $20.01 with a maximum of $24.01.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
