Job summary

Cold Lake First Nations is seeking a lead to advance the Strong Paths, Safe Futures - Guns & Gangs initiative for youth ages 12-24 in Cold Lake. The role focuses on developing community safety and prevention activities within the CLFN framework.

You will lead day-to-day implementation, supervise program staff, and coordinate with Elders, families, and partners, using Dene teachings and land-based activities to support healing and resilience.

Qualifications

• Plan and maintain outreach, mentorship, and prevention activities for at-risk and justice-involved youth.
• Lead day-to-day implementation, tracking, and reporting of the GnG initiative in accordance with funding requirements.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed and restorative approaches as they relate to youth and families.

• Contribute to the broader Community Safety Department's development while ensuring GnG-funded activities, time, and expenditures are documented separately for accountability.

Job Purpose:

Provides leadership in developing and delivering community safety and prevention initiatives within Cold Lake First Nations, with direct responsibility for implementing the Strong Paths, Safe Futures - Guns & Gangs (GnG) initiative for youth ages 12-24.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead the day-to-day implementation, tracking, and reporting of the Strong Paths, Safe Futures initiative in accordance with funding requirements.
• Plan and maintain consistent outreach, mentorship, and prevention activities for at-risk and justice-involved youth.
• Supervise, schedule, and support Youth Outreach & Mentorship Worker(s) and assigned program staff.
• Build trusting relationships with youth, families, and Elders, incorporating Dene teachings, language, and land-based activities.
• Coordinate case supports and referrals with internal CLFN services and maintain collaborative partnerships with external agencies (e.g., RCMP, Community Corrections, schools).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• Post-secondary education in social work, criminology, Indigenous studies, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in youth services, justice, or Indigenous community programming with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
• Experience working with youth and families affected by trauma, substance use, or justice involvement, alongside an understanding of trauma-informed and restorative approaches.
• Knowledge of Cold Lake First Nations, Dene culture, and local community relationships.
• Strong relationship-building, organization, problem-solving, and facilitation skills.
• Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's Licence and the ability to travel.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

• Primarily community-based work, including office duties, outreach, partner meetings, and land-based activities.
• Must be able to work in complex, occasionally high-stress situations while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Office environment. Monday to Thursday 8:30am - 4:30pm, Friday 8:30am - 2:00pm.
• Working hours can vary and may require a flexible schedule depending on type of assignment or work plan task.
• Evening and weekend work may be required to attend meetings, events, and community engagement sessions to provide programming when youth and families are most available.
