Job summary

Socket.dev seeks a Youth Program Coordinator to develop and deliver community youth programs in Fort McKay. You will research needs, engage stakeholders, and mentor Youth Workers while coordinating activities and reporting on outcomes.

The role emphasizes collaboration with FMFN communities, program administration, and outreach to encourage youth participation in sport, recreation, and cultural activities.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in community program planning, recreation, social work, events, or related field.
• Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
• Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of culture, traditions and values.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License & Clean Driver's Abstract
• A clean criminal record and vulnerable sector check is required

Responsibilities

• Assess the program requirements of youth in Fort McKay.
• Assist in the creation of a Youth Committee.
• Assist in research and stakeholder engagement to determine FMFN youth's needs and interests.
• Research funding sources and work with industry to develop programs/workshops relevant to the FMFN youth.
• Ensure a variety of sport, recreation, cultural and other programs are planned and implemented.
• Prepare a plan for youth activities.
• Prepare financial and program reports.
• Record information on and prepare reports concerning youth programs, costs, numbers of participants and equipment and facility use.
• Maintain minutes for Youth Committee meetings.
• Supervise activities for youth.
• Encourage local youth to participate in programs.
• Monitor the use of equipment and facilities.
• Monitor and mentor Youth Workers.
• Ensure proper supervision of evening programs.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Under general supervision, the Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and delivery of community youth programming. This includes assisting in the research and development of programs based on community needs, administering and delivering community youth programs, and mentoring and monitoring Youth Worker(s).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Youth Programming Research and Development:

• Assess the program requirements of youth in Fort McKay
• Assist in the creation of a Youth Committee
• Assist in research and stakeholder engagement to determine FMFN youth's needs and interests.
• Research funding sources and or work with industry to develop programs/workshops relevant to the needs of youth in FMFN.
• Ensure a variety of sport, recreation, cultural and other programs are planned and implemented.
• Ensure program information is available.
• Encourage existing organizations to include youth.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of programs.
• Identify areas where new programs are needed or current programs need improvement.

Youth Programming Operations and Administration:

• Prepare a plan for youth activities.
• Prepare financial and program reports.
• Record information on and prepare reports concerning youth programs, costs, numbers of participants and equipment and facility use.
• Maintain minutes for Youth Committee meetings.
• Supervise activities for youth.
• Encourage local youth to participate in programs.

Youth Programming Outreach and Engagement

• Collaborate with the Communications department to arrange for advertising and marketing of youth programs, i.e., program brochures, newsletters, announcements, social media and other forums to maximize community outreach and participation.
• Maintain contacts with local, regional and territorial organizations for youth.
• Mentor potential Junior Leaders from the community.
• Perform other related duties as required.
