Job summary

CFMWS in Canada seeks a Community Recreation Manager to lead and oversee community fitness, sports, arts and culture programming and libraries/membership services to support military families.

You will mentor junior staff and volunteers, manage budgets, develop programs for all ages, and collaborate with stakeholders to improve quality of life for personnel. This on-site role requires bilingual English/French and a passion for service.

Qualifications

  • College diploma or certificate in Recreation, Leisure Studies, or Community Development.
  • AED, CPR and Basic First Aid qualifications.
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development or HIGH FIVE Sport (by end probation).
  • HIGH FIVE QUEST 2 (by end probation).
  • HIGH FIVE Healthy Minds for Healthy Children (by end probation).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the department and operations of community fitness, sports, arts and culture programming.
  • Oversee services such as libraries and membership offices.
  • Mentor junior staff and volunteers to improve service quality and outcomes.

THE ROLE

The Community Recreation Manager plays an important role, providing quality leisure programs, services and facilities to our military members and their families.

Our services are tailored to help families with the challenges they may face due to military life and make the most of everyday activities such as going to the playground or day camp. We believe that when members of the Canadian Armed Forces are able to take good care of themselves and their families, they can do better both at home and at work. Whether families need to sign the kids up for swimming lessons, improve their fitness, make friends in a new community, our services are here to help.

You will have a diverse portfolio, providing programs to preschoolers, to adults and seniors. Each day will be different as you lead and manage the department and operations of community fitness, sports, arts and culture programming, and oversee services such as libraries and membership offices. You will have a chance to expand your skills and share your passions as you mentor junior staff and volunteers all with the goal of improving the quality of life for our military.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED
Education, Certifications and Licenses
  • College diploma or certificate in Recreation, Leisure Studies, or Community Development, or a related field
  • Current AED, CPR and Basic First Aid qualifications
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development or HIGH FIVE Sport (successful completion by end of probation)
  • HIGH FIVE QUEST 2(successful completion by end of probation)
  • HIGH FIVE Healthy Minds for Healthy Children(successful completion by end of probation)
Experience
  • In planning, managing, controlling and evaluating the operations and delivery of recreation, aquatic and water safety programs
  • In writing, interpreting, applying policies, procedures, regulations and applicable legislation
  • In strategic business and financial planning
  • In budget administration
  • In personnel administration
  • In collecting, analyzing and reporting data for the purpose of program evaluations
  • In group facilitation, training and team building
  • In inventory control and loss prevention
  • In project management
  • In marketing and publicity including the use of social media
Competencies
  • Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bilingual (English and French) Essential
  • Reading: Advanced
  • Writing: Functional
  • Oral: Advanced

OTHER INFORMATION

Perform moderate lifting, carrying, pulling and/or pushing (i.e. more than 10 lbs/4.5 kg but less than 50lbs/23 kg).

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.

This is an on-site position with an assigned work location.
