Job summary

The Municipality of East Hants is seeking a Community Recreation Coordinator to develop and manage recreational activities that promote health and wellness across all ages. You will lead programs in sports, fitness, arts, leisure, health, and social well-being within a collaborative team.

Strong experience in recreation or events, staff coaching, and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion are essential.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Recreation or related field is required.
• Several years of experience in recreation, events, or related field.
• Experience developing and managing programs or events for diverse audiences (children, adults, families, seniors).
• Experience coaching, motivating, and leading staff in recreation or events.
• Champion of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with skills to foster a welcoming environment.
• Experience with MS Office Suite and familiarity with program registration software.
• Clear criminal record and child abuse registry checks are required.

Responsibilities

• Propose, develop, and manage recreational activities that promote health and wellness for the community.
• Develop and manage programs and events for children, adults, families, and seniors.
• Coach, motivate, and lead recreation staff and volunteers.
• Foster Diversity, Equity and Inclusion across programs and staff.
• Travel within East Hants to deliver programs and support development.

Community Recreation Coordinator

Location: Elmsdale, NS

Due to an internal transfer we are accepting resumes for a Community Recreation Coordinator to join our team.

The Community Recreation Coordinator proposes, develops, and manages recreational activities that promote health and wellness for children, adults, families, and seniors in the Municipality of East Hants. Programs and events can include sports, fitness, arts, leisure, health, wellness, and social well-being.

What you can offer:

• You have a post-secondary education in Recreation or a related field.
• You have several years of experience in recreation, events, or a related field.
• You have experience developing and managing programs or events for a variety of audiences, including children, adults, families, and seniors.
• You have experience coaching, motivating, and leading recreational or events staff.
• You are a champion of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with skills to foster a welcoming and accessible environment for all staff and program attendees.
• You have experience with MS Office Suite, and have a familiarity with program registration software.
• Clear criminal record and child abuse registry checks.

Working Environment:

• Flexibility in hours of work in order to attend meetings and events that could occur outside of normal office hours.
• Programs will be delivered throughout the Municipality. Ability to travel to various locations in East Hants as needed for program development and support.
