CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO)

The Alberta Association of Optometrists (AAO) has appointed Jay Harvey of Lock Search Group to assist in recruiting their next Chief Executive Officer. The AAO is the professional voice for optometrists across Alberta, committed to advancing the profession and ensuring Albertans have access to world-class eye care.

Are you a visionary leader with a passion for healthcare and a proven track record of driving strategic growth? We’re seeking a dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the AAO. If you are energized by influencing policy, advocating for professionals, and elevating healthcare outcomes—this could be your next chapter.

Based in Edmonton, the CEO will be responsible for setting and executing the strategic direction of the organization, overseeing daily operations, and acting as the primary liaison with stakeholders, including government, healthcare partners, and members.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Operations Management: Oversee programs, member services, financial management, and internal policies to ensure operational excellence. Develop and manage annual budgets, monitor financial performance, and ensure long-term fiscal sustainability.
  2. Advocacy & Government Relations: Lead advocacy efforts with government and regulators to promote the profession and influence healthcare policy. Cultivate a strong member community through services, education, and responsive support.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s and master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Healthcare Management, Public Policy). Certifications such as CAE, CPA, CAPM are considered assets.
  • 5–10+ years of senior leadership experience in healthcare, association, or non-profit sectors.
  • Proven success in strategic planning, financial management, and team leadership.
  • Strong background in advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and navigating complex regulatory environments.
