Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Community Organization Worker, will support and help facilitate a variety of community outreach programs that serve vulnerable youth, adults (different ages) and seniors. This includes contributing to the development and delivery of educational, cultural, and wellness-based initiatives such as personal development training for youth, craft-based engagement for seniors, and moral values education for children. The role involves conducting research, sourcing materials, coordinating transportation, and actively participating in the planning and implementation of group sessions. Through creativity, cultural sensitivity, and organizational support, this position will help strengthen participants’ social-emotional skills and promote community connection.

Accountabilities

The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.

Third Culture Program & Personal Development Training

  • Conduct research on intercultural transition and third-culture challenges faced by children and their families after relocation.
  • Develop a personal/group development training program that addresses social-emotional growth, self-esteem, identity, and resilience in youth between 12-18 years old.
  • Create interactive resources, group discussions, and reflection activities that empower parents and children to thrive in diverse environments.

Craft Manual for Seniors

  • Design a senior-friendly manual with creative and therapeutic craft projects and games or activities that promote fine motor skills, memory, and well-being.

Create and Connect Program Development

  • Motivate clients to participate in different activities and assign them activities every Wednesday.
  • Design a structured program schedule with a balance of hands-on art, music, and wellness activities that foster connection and self-expression.
  • Support instructors or volunteers during activities and adjust content based on participant feedback and observed needs.
  • Adapt games to meet different program goals, such as emotional learning, social inclusion, or physical activity.

Children of Integrity Program Implementation

  • Develop lesson plans that include moral values, character-building themes, and adapt the Children of Integrity curriculum for local context.
  • Facilitate and support sessions with children, encouraging open discussion, reflection, and application of values in daily life.

Other Program Support

  • Drive students to program and assist with setting up and running activities.
  • Help maintain discipline and encourage children to participate actively.
  • Participate in the preparation of materials and snacks before the regular programs.

Critical Relationship Management

Internal: MU leadership and staff, volunteers.

External: Will have to communicate with community members.

Managerial/Technical Responsibilities

Reports directly to the CFS Director. Direct reports: None

Financial And Material Management

  • Minor material responsibilities.
  • The incumbent will not be involved in receiving, handling or disbursements of funds.
  • The incumbent has no input into the annual budget.

Working Conditions

  • The incumbent's work environment is typically in an office environment.
  • May be required to move/lift up to 30 pounds.

Education, Experience And Qualifications

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Valid Driver's License - personal vehicle not required.

Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered. Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of some high school course work is required.

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Employment program.

To Be Eligible, Candidates Must

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Able to provide Criminal Background Check screening and Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $15.65 to $16.90 with a maximum of $20.28.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
