Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
The role will facilitate various programs and spiritual formation, organize, and deliver resources and development opportunities for youth, children and families within a Ministry Unit (MU).
Accountabilities:
- Assist with creation and promotion for all programs for children, youth, and families within the MU to serve CFS clients.
- Coordinate and maintain programs relevant to children, youth, and families within the Corps as well as in the community at large.
- Contribute to the spiritual development of children, youth, and families by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviours.
- Support development of new ministries to encourage the spiritual development of children and youth.
- Assist with planning and delivery of creative worship services, outreach, discipleship programs, etc.
- Plan events to promote integrated mission, connecting youth and families from community with Corps.
- Maintain all statistics pertaining to youth programming and provides them to the administrative assistant for recording in a timely fashion.
- Represent The Salvation Army on related community youth committees when necessary.
- Provide administrative support and coordination with Community Partners to determine local Youth and family resources.
- Assist families with food bank, clothing bank, etc.
- May be required to attend and/or transport children to/from camps and outside activities as needed.
- Follow up with children/youth who attend The Salvation Army camp programs.
- Fundraise for youth and family events.
- Attend Corps Council Meetings.
- Assist with volunteer recruiting for events and activity efforts, as well as all necessary support, resources, and supplies.
- Give oversight to youth leaders/volunteers and ensure ongoing volunteer training
- Implement policies and procedures for Youth Ministries in collaboration with the Corps Officer/Community Ministries Officer.
- Perform administrative tasks that support program objectives in collaboration with Administrative Assistant.
- Attend youth networking and Community meetings as required by the Corps Officer/Community Ministries Officer.
- Actively participates in meetings with Corps Officer/Community Ministries Officer, inclusive of PEAC
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
Minor material responsibilities
- Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources.
- May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash (e.g., program donations, fundraisers).
- Little input to annual budget or revenue projections. Maintain the department annual budget in collaboration with the Corps Officer/Community Ministries Officer.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Working environment is typically in the Corps building in generally agreeable conditions.
- Some requirements to work outside or in a variety of locations may apply to some roles.
- Ability to lift to 20 pounds.
- This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for periods of time.
- Dealing with people with challenging behaviour and verbal abuse.
- Travel within/out city may be required.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends to meet program needs.
- Flexibility in work schedule is required based on programming schedules.

Education and experience Qualifications:
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Work in compliance with OH& S Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
- Able to provide Criminal Background Check screening and Vulnerable Secord Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- College Certificate or Diploma of two academic years.
- An emphasis in Biblical Studies or Youth Ministries is an asset.
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
- Current Safe Food Handlers certificate or willingness to obtain.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Three (3) years of prior related experience, including experience of working with children and youth.
- Good computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
- Understanding for individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds
Skills and Capabilities (examples provided below):
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coach and motivate volunteers.
- Self-starter who requires minimal supervision.
- Ability to represent the local Salvation Army within the community.
- A primary commitment to Jesus Christ and a passion for youth and families.
- Demonstrates an ability to work with and relate to children and youth.
- Musical abilities would be an asset.
- Valid provincial Driver’s License may be required for some of the roles for use of Salvation Army program vehicle; an original copy of a current Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $20.75 to $25.94 with a maximum of $31.13.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
