Qualifications

  • Grade 12 and a relevant certificate are required.

Job description

Position Summary
We are currently hiring a permanent full time Community Mental Health Worker 1 to join our Mental Health Substance Use (MHSU) Aftercare team at the Lansdowne Centre in Kamloops, B.C.

What will you work on?
The Community Mental Health Worker 1 functions as part of an integrated multidisciplinary Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) Team and performs a variety of life skills and general support duties involving clients who are living in their own housing. Reporting to the HCIS Manager or designate, and in accordance with established treatment plans, this position provides services within a psychosocial rehabilitation and harm reduction framework for the assigned client population(s) with severe mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders. Provides support to clients in the development and maintenance of the skills required to live successfully in their own homes.

The Community Mental Health Worker 1 is expected to engage clients in various community settings as people with full potential and as meaningful collaborators in their own service planning, delivery and evaluation.

Scheduling Information:
Shifts types are days and shift of work are from 08:30 to 16:30 hours. Days of work are Monday to Friday.

About this location/unit
Lansdowne Centre is one of Interior Health’s Mental Health Centres which provide many services including adult community support, adult short-term assessment and treatment, community residential programs, geriatric programs, crisis intervention, day and outpatient programs, addictions counselling, concurrent disorders services, group therapy, peer support, and after-hours mental health support.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:
  1. Grade 12
  2. Certificate in a field relevant to the position (such as, Community Mental Health Certificate, Human Service Worker Certificate, Social Services Worker Certificate, etc.)
  3. One year recent related experience working with the assigned client population(s) experiencing mental health and/or substance use problems; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  4. Food Safe certificate required
  5. Current valid B.C. Driver’s License

  2. Working knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness in the assigned client population(s)
  3. Working knowledge of community, social and health resources
  4. Ability to demonstrate and assist client with development of health life skills
  5. Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, and use non-violent crisis intervention techniques
  6. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  7. Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients
  8. Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients
  9. Ability to work with a culturally diverse population
  10. Ability to instruct
  11. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and meet deadlines
  12. Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  13. Ability to analyze and resolve problems
