Job description

Position Summary

This position will lead the implementation of the First Nation Band Representative and In-Home Support Services programs, including safe and transitional homes. The role involves overseeing daily supervision, management, and administration of these programs to ensure effective delivery aligned with the goals, objectives, and strategic vision of the First Nation. It also includes developing and evaluating programs to build capacity for a sustainable, community-based service model for M’Chigeeng First Nation. The coordinator ensures high-quality family services with a focus on supporting First Nation families.

Essential Functions

  • Familiarize with all Deloitte literature related to First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle settlement.
  • Develop communication releases to inform M’Chigeeng First Nation members about the Federal Compensation process, including contact information for Deloitte (Administrator).
  • Create a service pamphlet outlining the roles and responsibilities of the Community Liaison Coordinator– Federal Compensation.
  • Develop presentations to share information on child welfare and federal compensation.
  • Participate in community events and in-services to promote awareness of child welfare and federal compensation programs.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop outreach strategies and new program initiatives as needed.
  • Verify the list of children/youth provided by Indigenous and Mainstream Societies for eligibility for Federal Compensation.
  • Review existing files to confirm family involvement and eligibility for Federal Compensation based on specified timeframes.
  • Coordinate with Ontario Societies through letters and meetings as required.
  • Respond to inquiries from families regarding eligibility, advocating and assisting access to Deloitte as Claims Administrator.
  • Refer First Nation members to Deloitte Navigational Support and care teams for assistance with claims.
  • Conduct outreach to identify families needing assistance with federal compensation.
  • Maintain relationships with community and external services related to child welfare and federal compensation.
  • Provide information, referrals, and advocacy to families navigating federal compensation access.
  • Follow up to ensure families receive necessary services and support.
  • Maintain accurate records of interactions and services provided.
  • Compile monthly reports on activities and family engagement related to child welfare and compensation.

Qualifications

Preferred: Degree in Social Services or related field.

Minimum: Experience in Child and Family Services within a First Nation context, valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, clear CRC and VSS.

  • Proficient in computer skills.
  • Organized, able to multi-task, work under pressure, and prioritize.
  • Knowledge of First Nation issues, culture, and traditions.
  • Fluency in Anishinabemowin or willingness to learn.
  • Current VSS (30 days) with original or certified copy.

Applicants must provide a clear VSS certificate and a clean CRC record, with no convictions related to alcohol, drugs, assault, violence, or theft. Both VSS and CRC must be current (30 days) and original.
