Job summary

House of Friendship in Waterloo Region is seeking a Grounds Light Maintenance Worker to perform indoor and outdoor custodial tasks and minor maintenance. You will support program activities, interact respectfully with participants, and help maintain safe, clean spaces across locations.

The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to health and safety standards, and a collaborative approach with maintenance staff and contractors. Daytime schedule and local travel are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 education required.
• 1-2 years of experience working in building maintenance or custodial cleaning processes preferred.
• Trade certificate or experience considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Complete seasonal outdoor maintenance tasks (mowing, trimming, sweeping, raking, shoveling snow, ice melt, litter disposal).
• Keep grounds and exterior areas clean, safe and presentable.
• Clean common areas, office spaces, staff spaces and treatment spaces.
• Engage program participants in daily cleaning and ensure they perform their roles as instructed.
• Address behavioural concerns while working with program participants.
• Support with conflict de-escalation and risk mitigation to promote safety and wellbeing.
• Ensure sites are safe, in good working order, and disinfected regularly.
• Provide support to maintenance technicians in tenant and participant spaces.
• Perform minor indoor maintenance tasks (painting prep/cleanup, filter changes, small repairs).
• Move refuse containers to pickup locations; organize maintenance storage.
