Job Description

This role offers valuable experience and skills development, with the opportunity to connect with community members and create memorable events.

Responsibilities
Community Events Assistant:
  1. Assist with event preparation, setup, and teardown.
  2. Manage participant check-in, registration, and attendance tracking.
  3. Coordinate and oversee event activities such as games, crafts, and sports.
  4. Supervise and manage volunteers during events.
  5. Engage with participants and the public using excellent customer service skills.
  6. Ensure the safety and professionalism of all event aspects.
  7. Supervise the Special Events Stage Trailer as needed.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Train Driver:
  1. Operate the Tim Hortons Express Train safely during events.
  2. Assist passengers, especially those requiring assistance, during boarding and unboarding.
  3. Drive the train responsibly, ensuring passenger safety and adherence to safety rules.
  4. Respond effectively to incidents during train operation.
  5. Identify and report issues to the Recreation Programmer.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
All Positions:
  • Experience in event coordination, organization, and implementation.
  • Familiarity with Town of Newmarket events.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Ability to work outdoors for up to 10 hours.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and procedures.
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification (must be obtained prior to start).
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town.
Community Events Assistant:
  • Experience supervising others in recreation settings.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts.
Train Driver:
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license with a clean abstract.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Availability for flexible and split shifts, including weekends.

Note: Certifications are not required at application but must be obtained before employment. The Town may provide certification opportunities.
