Reporting Relationship
The Community Energy Coordinator reports to and will work under the direction of the Business and Economic Development Manager.

Position Summary:
The Community Energy Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating energy related initiatives and activities for the M’Chigeeng First Nation.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Project planning, scheduling, allocation of resources, budgeting, and regular communication with community members, staff, management, and leadership.
  2. Review and oversee the finalization of M’Chigeeng First Nations community energy plan including routinely updating, modifying, and reporting over the course of the project as required.
  3. Prioritizing and completing action items set out in the community energy plan and other related energy initiatives.
  4. Monitoring energy conservation activities.
  5. Complete and submit preliminary applications for funding of new and existing conservation programs.
  6. Develop a positive working relationship between the MFN administration, community members, fund investors and business partners.
  7. Developing and administering project proposals and project costing/budgeting for energy related initiatives in the community.
  8. Acting as an energy education and conservation resource for the M’Chigeeng First Nation community and membership.
  9. Organize and deliver training sessions to community members regarding energy usage and conservation.
  10. Conduct presentations for membership and multiple stakeholders to ensure transparency in project development and objectives.
  11. Establish a Community Energy Committee and hold quarterly meetings.
  12. Create awareness campaigns using marketing materials such as flyers and brochures to encourage community member participation in energy conservation and cost-saving rebate programs.
  13. Collaborate with the Housing Department and/or Consultants and Contractors to complete energy audits of community and residential buildings to identify opportunities for energy efficient retrofits.
  14. Recommend and coordinate the installation of energy saving solutions such as energy efficiency lighting, hot water blankets and programmable thermostats as requested.
  15. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of renewable energy funding opportunities available for community members.
  16. Oversees multiple projects simultaneously; keep stakeholders and M’Chigeeng First Nation informed of the project development and ensuring that project objectives are met.
  17. Respond to general inquiries relating to utility services, utility billing and energy conservation.
  18. All other duties as assigned.

Finance and Administration

  1. Completes timesheets accurately and in a timely manner; Participates in all staff meetings.
  2. Manages Energy Budget CEC IESO Contract.
  3. Completes Annual Budget for the Energy Programming.
  4. Documents and maintains files.
  5. Prepares project reports and maintains records as required by workplans and the Manager; Works within the established budget for the program.
  6. Attend and participate in training seminars, workshops, and online courses, as required.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Preferred

  1. Post-secondary diploma/degree in a related field such as Science, Environmental or related field.
  2. Previous experience with data collecting (ability to collect, document, analyze and interpret data and information).
  3. Demonstrated skills in report writing, technical document review, organizing meetings and events.
  4. Must have computer skills and proven experience with word processing, spreadsheets, file management and working knowledge of energy related technical software, preferably in Microsoft Office.

Minimum

  1. Grade 12 or Equivalent with 1-2 years work experience in an office environment.
  2. Some experience in research and analysis would be an asset.
  3. Some grant and proposal writing experience would be an asset.
  4. Proven to be accurate, timely, detail oriented, organized, a self-starter and able to prioritize workload.

  8. Effective problem-solving skills.
  9. Knowledge of Anishinabek culture, traditions, and practices.
  10. Understanding and fluency in Anishinabemowin or willingness to learn are strong assets.
  11. Flexible to work odd hours, overtime and/or on weekends as needed.
  12. Available for both in-house and professional training.
  13. Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  14. Must provide a clear Police Criminal Reference Check upon hire.

Criminal Reference Check (CRC) Rationale: M’Chigeeng First Nation is in a position of trust to its members and is committed to providing a safe and secure work environment. Applicants must have record clear and/or dated of convictions relating to fraud, drugs, assault, and theft. The CRC must be current (30 days) and must be an Original or certified copy.
