Job summary

AbilityFirst in Pasadena, CA is seeking a Community Coach for a temporary full-time position to support individuals with disabilities in community settings. You will guide skill-building and independence through person-centered plans, working in the field to promote inclusion and engagement.

The role requires a high school diploma (Bachelor's preferred) and 1–2 years of relevant experience, with willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR and pass background checks.

Qualifications

  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • 1–2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Must be able to provide physical assistance including lifting or transferring participants is required.
  • Must be able to work evenings/weekends as needed.
  • Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification and clear background check (LiveScan).

Responsibilities

  • Coach and guide individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, focusing on skills for successful community integration.
  • Build positive, supportive relationships and encourage participants' active engagement in all activities.
  • Foster respectful interactions with community members, advocating for age-appropriate treatment of participants.
  • Develop and implement Individual Service Plans, assessing progress and adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Maintain professional, empathetic relationships with families and agency staff, balancing advocacy with respect and sensitivity.
  • Document participants’ progress meticulously and manage essential administrative tasks.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of the program and organization.
