The salary range for this position is CAD $27.92/Hr. - CAD $29.60/Hr.

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Community Health Worker to join the Home Support Team in Squamish, BC. Apply today! Community Health Workers play a vital role in our communities, providing care and significantly impacting clients' and patients' quality of life. We reimburse mileage between client visits, ferry travel costs (if applicable), and cover the difference between “To and From work” and “Business” class insurance.

Responsibilities
  • Work under the supervision of the Supervisor/Coordinator/Manager or delegate to provide home support services.
  • Assist clients with varying levels of care, observe, and report significant changes.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, clients, and caregivers to maximize independence with ADLs and IADLs.
  • Motivate, encourage, and involve clients in their care.
  • Provide input and feedback during care planning.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant Program.
  • Active registration with BC Community Health Worker and Care Aide Registry.
  • Experience with dementia, geriatric, or palliative populations is an asset.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License; local travel requires a personal vehicle.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Knowledge of client-centered care and promoting independence.
  • Proper use of body mechanics and injury prevention.
  • Ability to operate mechanical lifts safely.
  • Workplace violence prevention knowledge and personal safety techniques.
  • Understanding of patient-centered care for individuals with dementia.
  • Ability to practice harm reduction approaches.
  • Basic technology literacy, including computerized care systems and cellular phones.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Culturally safe and competent care, especially with Indigenous peoples.
  • Organizational skills to manage workload within a team.
  • Ability to perform home management tasks and motivate clients.
  • Physical ability to perform duties.

The hours and work area may change based on operational needs. Successful applicants may need to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. All healthcare workers must report past vaccinations or infections as per Ministry of Health policy.
