Job Description:

**Due to the nature of Canada Summer Jobs funding, applicants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, who is 30 years of age or under.

BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Plan, coordinate or lead skills workshops to camp participants (ie, programming - drama, sports, cross-cultural understanding, spiritual practices, volunteering/community service).
  • If applicable, work alongside food security programs, through interaction with families in need, for registration referrals.
  • If applicable, work with team to lead children and youth to respond to theGospel through presentation and prayer.
  • Develop relationshipswith families, encouraging happy and well-developed children and youth, living in peace with themselves and others.
  • Working with Corps Officer/pastor, provide emotional care and spiritual care to enrich their lives and allow them to reach their full potential and the welfare of the city.
  • Contribute to the annual reports for ministries with input such as written records/logs of activities, reports, and statistics forministry evaluation.
  • Monitor expenditures to ensure conformity to budget provisions.
  • Participate in staff training and development.
  • Know and act in accordance withsecurity proceduresof The Salvation Army to ensure the safety and confidentiality of participants and information.
  • Assist in annual Back to School event where required.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned (set up, clean up, communication).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • A busy office and day camp environment.
  • Both indoor and outdoor work environment.
  • Off site at an overnight camp, if applicable.
  • Work-related stress.
  • May be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury or illnesses due to physical attacks by others (i.e., violent/aggressive neighbour), exposure to infectious diseases and other potentially dangerous situations.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • At least one year of post-secondary education (an alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable).
  • Related studies or equivalent work experience with youth.
  • Full License and Clean Drivers Abstract is an asset.
  • First Aid/CPR Certificate is an asset.
  • Clear and current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening required.

Competencies:

  • Passionate for building loving relationships with youth and children inspired by the positive values of the Bible, The Salvation Army (Hope, Service, Dignity, and Stewardship), and Boundless Vancouver (relationships and transformation).
  • A demonstration of openness to and respect for spiritual disciplines and participation in community faith practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to plan, execute, and lead younger team members and participants.
  • A desire to be creative and innovative showing initiative with limited supervision.
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Digital skills are an asset.
  • Teaching skills in subjects for day camp participants is an asset.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Temporary Full Time – 35 hours/wk.
  • Monday – Friday, July 3, 2025 - August 22, 2025 (possibly includes Sat/Sun, and working from different locations, depending on program delivery needs).

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $19.69 with a maximum of $23.63.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
