Job summary

SHIFT TRANSIT is seeking a Community Ambassador/Valet in Field Operations in Toronto. The role focuses on decreasing bike dock availability shortages and ensuring customers have access to stations, with corrals prepared overnight and released to the stations as needed.

You will work with the Field Mobility Team, engage with dispatch, and contribute to maintaining bike station operations across high-traffic areas. A flexible hybrid work approach applies depending on role requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Follow instructions and respond to dispatch effectively.
  • Retrieve inoperative bicycles and manage bike docking operations.
  • Inspect docking stations for operability, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Maintain areas around bike stations and ensure service accessibility.
  • Interact professionally with customers and provide assistance.
  • Collaborate with Field Operations to improve systems and address issues.
  • Perform light maintenance tasks and assist with logistics.
  • Load/unload bikes and communicate with dispatch via software.
  • Assess bike safety and station conditions and report issues.
  • Provide knowledge of the system to customers in the field.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

We partner with private, public, and non-profit clients to provide day-to-day fleet management, marketing, and customer service support for a wide array of mobility programs. As the operator of Bike Share Toronto, Shift Transit offers 24/7 convenient access to over 9,000+ bikes and 700+ stations across Toronto’s vast biking network that cover more than 200 square kilometres across the City of Toronto.

The Community Ambassador/Valet in Field Operations is responsible for decreasing the chance of availability shortage. The goal of the position is to allow customers dock availability across high-traffic volume stations while catering to customer service needs. Bikes are to be placed near the initial station to be locked using a corral cable and lock to keep them secure. This position also focuses on high-traffic volume station bike availability. The Field Mobility Team will prepare corrals overnight near designated stations to be released into the station.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Follow instructions and respond to dispatch effectively.
  • Retrieve inoperative bicycles by direction or via inoperative bicycle software.
  • Inspect docking stations for operability, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Maintain the area around bike stations as needed to allow members to use the service seamlessly.
  • Set the highest standards when interacting with current and potential customers.
  • Collaborate with the Field Operations team to constantly improve the system and elevate any issues to dispatch.
  • Have the ability to perform light maintenance functions such as refilling receipt paper, and graffiti removal.
  • Load and unload vehicles with bikes. Communicate with dispatchers and follow instructions delivered through our dispatch software.
  • Evaluate bike safety and bike station condition, and report issues to dispatch as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of the system to provide excellent customer service to current and potential customers in the field.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, and lift, crawl, and stoop and must be willing to work in the field in all weather conditions around the year.

  • Must have an excellent knowledge of the City of Toronto, previous driving experience an asset
  • Must be physically fit, able to do repetitive work, and lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills
