Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, "Witatoskimihtotan Mitho-Pimatisiwin - Let's Work Together For a Good Life" Community Advocacy Services is currently seeking a Community Advocacy Support / Jordan's Principle Worker (1 position) for the WMP Community Advocacy Program. This position will serve the communities of Denare Beach and Sturgeon Landing, based out of Denare Beach.

Reporting to the Community Advocacy Supervisor, the Support Worker is responsible for providing Community Advocacy Services to support children, youth, and families at risk of or involved with CFS. Community Advocacy functions as part of an interagency team supporting children, youth, and families, including local programs such as PBCN Health, Education, Social, ICFS, and other service providers.

This is a permanent full-time position. PBCN is willing to train the successful candidate, who will be supported by the Community Advocacy Supervisor and the Director of Community Advocacy.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advocacy support services for children, youth, and families, under the supervision of the Community Advocacy Supervisor (CAS).
  • Uphold and strengthen the rights of PBCN in provincial, territorial, and federal child and family services laws.
  • Support children, youth, and families in exercising their rights under relevant laws.
  • Promote equality and support family unity.
  • Connect clients with land, language, culture, practices, and traditions of their community.
  • Empower individuals to pursue holistic lifestyles.
  • Support CFS-related matters, including administrative and court proceedings.
  • Develop advocacy plans, identify supports, make referrals, and assist with Jordan's Principle and Post Majority Care applications.
  • Ensure proper documentation, record keeping, and confidentiality of files and records.
  • Build relationships with community service providers and authorities, making referrals as needed.
  • Participate in community engagement, meetings, and provide reports as required.
Qualifications
  • Social Work Degree, Social Services Diploma, or related field preferred; or two (2) years of direct community services experience. On-the-job training will be provided.
  • Knowledge of PBCN programs, government agencies, and community services.
  • Respect and understanding of Woodland Cree culture, language, and traditions.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, and policies affecting children and families.
  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma; preferred post-secondary education.
  • Two (2) years of experience in social services or equivalent education/experience.
Other Requirements
  • Clear Police Records Check - Vulnerable Sector.
  • Clear Child Welfare Check.
  • Valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's License and clean Driver's Abstract.
  • Eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers.
