Job summary

Community Advocacy Support /Jordan's Principle Worker

Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, "Witatoskimihtotan Mitho-Pimatisiwin - Let's Work Together For a Good Life" Community Advocacy Services is currently seeking a Community Advocacy Support / Jordan Principles Worker (1 position) for the WMP Community Advocacy Program. This position will serve the communities of Kiskaciwan and PA Urban, based out of Prince Albert.

Reporting to the Community Advocacy Supervisor, the Support Worker is responsible for providing Community Advocacy Services to support children, youth, and families at risk of or involved with CFS. The role involves working within a network of local programs such as PBCN Health, Education, Social, and ICFS, and other service providers in the communities.

This is a permanent full-time position. PBCN is willing to train the successful candidate, who will be supported by the Community Advocacy Supervisor and the Director of Community Advocacy.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide advocacy support services for children, youth, and families, under the guidance of the Chief and Council, while asserting and adhering to Woodland Cree culture, language, values, and way of life.
  2. Uphold and strengthen the rights of PBCN in provincial, territorial, and federal child and family services laws.
  3. Support children, youth, and families in exercising their rights under relevant laws.
  4. Promote equality, preserve family unity, and connect community members with their lands, languages, cultures, and traditions.
  5. Engage with individuals in a way that empowers them towards a holistic lifestyle.
  6. Assist in matters involving CFS, including administrative and court proceedings, and develop advocacy plans.
  7. Identify supports, make referrals, and assist with Jordan's Principle and Post Majority Care applications.
  8. Ensure all parental and caregiver consent and waiver forms are completed.
  9. Develop the WMP Community Advocacy Program and deliver related advocacy services.
  10. Maintain records, case files, contact notes, and participate in case conferences, ensuring confidentiality and proper record management.
  11. Establish relationships with community-based service providers, make referrals, and host community engagement meetings.
  12. Attend Community Advisory Committee meetings and complete monthly reports.
Qualifications
  • Social Work Degree, Social Services Diploma, or related social services field; or two years of direct community services experience (training provided).
  • Knowledge of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation programs, services, and other government agencies.
  • Respect and understanding of Woodland Cree culture, language, and traditions.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Education Act, and Health Services Act, among others.
  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma; preferred: Social Services Diploma or higher.
  • Two years of experience in social services capacity or equivalent education/experience.
Other Requirements
  • Clear Police Records Check - Vulnerable Sector.
  • Clear Child Welfare Check.
  • Valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's License and clean driving record.
  • Eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers.
